Norway is completely phasing out FM
The process of removing FM broadcasting stations started in 2015. From Wednesday morning all state-owned national radio stations began broadcasting exclusively via the DAB digital broadcasting system (Digital Audio Broadcasting). Some local stations will continue to broadcast on FM until 2022. Overall there are 26 stations broadcasting via DAB/DAB+ . The world's first DAB radio station started broadcasting from Norway on 1995. According to a Guardian investigation, the cost of running an FM broadcasting station costs eight times more than digital broadcasting in Norway. The survey also showed that approx 70% of Norwegians already listens to digital radio . Although switching to a digital signal is financially beneficial, the Norwegians themselves do not seem thrilled by the decision. Once it 17% of Norwegians agrees with the abolition of FM, reports a Reuters investigation, while around 2 millions of citizens (according to a Norwegian politician) they don't have a digital radio in their car. For the time being, Norway leads the race in switching to a digital radio broadcast signal, with Switzerland planning a complete phase-out of FM by 2020. Similar moves to digitize the broadcast signal are also taking place in Great Britain and Denmark, although a complete abolition of FM has not yet been decided.
Alarms: Seven dead from flu in one week
Seven people lost their lives between 1 to 8 January due to complications after contracting influenza A(H3N2), "enriching" the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's epidemiologic data on seasonal influenza in the most dismal way (ΚΕΕΛΠΝΟ). Overall, eight are the victims of the flu since last December, when the viruses of the disease began to circulate. KEELPNO experts attribute the increase in mortality to the high activity of the flu and the cold wave that has recently hit the country. Along with the jump in the number of fatal cases of the flu, there has been a sharp rise in severe cases that require hospitalization in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) – in the hard-to-find ICUs, as protothema.gr has written, where the waiting list numbers on a daily basis 50 with 70 patients. According to the KEELPNO data, 20 patients were admitted to ICU during the first week of the month and year. In total they have been recorded so far 39 severe cases of laboratory-confirmed influenza, who required hospitalization in the ICU. However, a large increase was also recorded in the circulation of influenza in the community, as it is reflected in the visits of citizens to a doctor with flu-like symptoms.Continue here…
