The "Walls" of Orelia Thiere "whisper" in the Mansion

Resourceful and smart, dynamic and mysterious. The "Wall Whispers" (“Murmurs of walls”), the spectacle presented by Orelia Thiere at the Athens Concert Hall (15,16/2, Alexandra Trianti Hall) it's a surreal world, intangible and ever-changing, where circus meets theatre.

The direction, the choreography as well as the sets are signed by the protagonist's mother, Victoria Thierry Chaplin (daughter of Charlie Chaplin) while the performance is part of the "Bridges" series.

The heroine of "Whispers" is in a city that resembles Venice, but it is constantly changing, populated by gray figures with expressionless faces, which refer to ghosts or memories frozen in time. The woman is constantly moving, he gets lost in a fantasy where he meets another figure, the dancer Jaime Martines, a lover who keeps following and losing her, makes her literally dance in the air while another claims her, gloomy and dark man, the clown and acrobat Magnus Jacobson, who is always near her without ever touching her. The incidents fade into one another, buildings tilt and rise again, they swallow the performers and throw them into the air, the walls are peeling, strange creatures appear menacingly, objects gain and lose motion, a vague menace fills the atmosphere…

The parents of Orelia Thiere, Jean Baptiste Thierry and Victoria Chaplin (whom we have seen in the past in Athens) they belong to the pioneers of the modern alternative circus. Orelia and her brother James (we have also seen him in Athens) they followed in their parents' footsteps and moved forward independently with mutes of their own, almost visual spectacles. Orelia, with her first job of her own, the "Oratorio", created a sensation around the world a few years ago

The Zeppelin did not deflate

The much talked about last concert of the British rock band, which was given in December of 2007 in London, will be shown at the Concert Hall

It is meant to be the "live" appearances of Led Zeppelin in our country to be absolutely related to… cinema screenings in dark rooms. This was the case for years with their classic live album 'The Song Remains the Same', which every rock generation "experienced" in some cinema b’ projection.
The same will happen now, a few decades later, with the long-awaited "Celebration Day" of the British band. But this time there are two important differences: first, we are not talking about just any room, since it will be shown on 16 November in the Alexandra Triantis Hall of the Megaros Musikis. Secondly, we won't be… by ourselves, as the same has happened in all the major cities of the world.
This is the only concert given by the band after its disbandment, which they attended 18.000 spectators at London's famous O2 arena on 10 December 2007. The film has already been shown in Manhattan (Ziegfried Theater), in London (Hammersmith Apollo), in Berlin and Tokyo, while it is expected to be shown in 1.500 halls, The day for the draw of the two lucky ones 40 Countries. This particular concert had even recorded a unique record: about 20 millions of people from all over the world wanted to be at the O2 then. Naturally, such a thing would be impossible, even if Led Zeppelin played every night for a year and a half…

"Debts" and complaints
Until the last moment, the band's singer Robert Plant, in interviews he gave about the group's reunion, insisted that such a concert was not part of his plans in particular., of the most successful after the breakup of the rock quartet the 1980, after drummer John Bonham died of asphyxiation in his sleep, after a night of heavy drinking.

They finally revised because, as they had typically stated in the press conference that had preceded their concert, "we owed both ourselves and the audience a great last concert". The concert was also a tribute to Ahmet Ertegan, founder of Atlantic Records, the man who discovered the band from its first steps, at the end of his decade 1960.
Since their breakup, the remaining Led Zeppelin have all performed three shows together.

The first became the 1985 on the occasion of Live Aid, where Phil Collins and Tony Thompson of Chic took over as drummers. But Robert Plant didn't like it at all, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. The second took place on the occasion of the MTV themed series "Unplugged Series", but without bassist Jones, and captured on the live album and dvd 'No Quarter'.
Plant and Page met four years later, the 1998, for the album "Walking into Clarksdale", while the third meeting of the three took place the 1995 on the occasion of Led Zeppelin's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In fact, John Paul Jones had then made a bitter comment about his absence the previous time. "Thanks, my friends, that you finally remembered my phone number" he had said. To her, the fourth and probably last time, Bonham's son sat in the drummer's place, Jason.
"Celebration Day" will be screened three days before its official release, either on dvd or on cd and vinyl, or even in a combination of the above formats. It contains in total 16 songs and, so as not to over-educate it, pretty much everything one would want to hear at a Led Zeppelin concert – with Page always sounding equally excellent on guitar and Plant, though without the characteristic high notes of the past, more meaningful and expressive than ever. As for filming, director Dick Carruthers did not resort to technological tricks. Simply, along with his large staff, recorded in every detail the essence of such an event.

Page's guitar, Plant's crowns
Why all the fuss about Led Zeppelin; But because it is one of the biggest and most commercial bands in the history of music. Along with Elvis Presley, of the Beatles and the great country star Garth Brooks, are the only names to have surpassed in sales in the US the 100 million. album and worldwide about 300. They are one of the few bands or artists to have more than four diamond albums to their credit (sales greater than 10 million. copies), while six of their nine albums have reached No 1 of the USA.
Their influence, no, has been huge in the years following their creation. This was evident in the sound of many great bands – starting with Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Queen, through the Ramones and the Cult and up to Nirvana, to Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. The secret of Zeppelin's success is of course not just that they coined the term hard rock – which along the way evolved into heavy metal -, but in that they managed to create a musical hybrid that uniquely combined their love of rock and roll and the blues with the mysticism of English folk, the Celtic tradition and Bach, the reggae, the pop, the soul, the funk, even Arabic and Indian music.
Their music was a powerful cocktail that combined with the now "mythical" lyrics and the skill of four super musicians set the imagination of millions of rock fans on a different trajectory, who imitated Page's every guitar move and every flick of Plant's hair as he pulled out his infamous crowns in anthemic songs, like "Black Dog", «Stairway to Heaven», «Whole Lotta Love», «Kashmir» και «Dazed and Confused».

When & where:
Led Zeppelin's 'Celebration Day' will be screened on Friday 16 November on 9 p.m. in the Alexandra Triantis Hall of the Athens Concert Hall. Tickets: 15 euro (general admission), 10 euro (students). Information on tel. 210 7282.333, www.megaron.gr

MUSIC HALL : Juliet in Verona 2012

With creations by Selia Krithariotis, the ballet of the National Opera presents the eternal love story in a new choreography by Renato Zanella

"The story of Romeo and Juliet affects everyone and I wondered if something similar could happen today…I believe so!», says Renato Zanella

Julieta wears creations by Selia Krithariotis, in the famous balcony scene and beyond. It's a fact. The National Opera suggests an interesting partnership between the art of dance and haute couture (which is common in European theaters) in the production of "Romeo and Juliet", ballet in two acts by Sergei Prokofiev.
The ELLS ballet will present the eternal love story of Romeo and Juliet, in a new choreography by the choreographer and director of the ELS Ballet, Renato Janella, for five unique performances, Is the motto of the 16th Spare Parts Bazaar 9 until 13 May, at the Athens Concert Hall ("Alexandra Trianti" room). The choreography, which is a world premiere, takes us to the Verona of today, where the two families of the Montagues and the Capulets maintain their feud, which already lasts many generations.

"In the right place"
Zanella is inspired by the personality and dynamics of the ELS ballet dancers. The ELS orchestra is under the musical direction of Loukas Karytinos, she has designed the costumes - in her first collaboration with Lyriki- the fashion designer Celia Kritharioti, while the sets are by Constantinos Theofanis.

The Romeo and Juliet ballet is one of the most beloved of dance philology. "I decided to choreograph it because I feel like I'm in the right place at the right time to deal with it. I was inspired by the size and strong personality of the Lyric Ballet, as well as the determination with which he opens himself to new projects", notes Renato Zanella.

"Verona is the city in which I was born. Her story, the architecture, its colors and tradition make the visitor feel that time has never passed? especially if one walks around at night, with the dim lighting of its streets, it feels like going back in time. The story of Romeo and Juliet affects everyone and I wondered if something similar could happen today. Love is so powerful, so as to lead two young men to acts of such desperation, in order to defend the, what is more important to them; I believe so!».

There was fear of attacks
In its original form the ballet was based on an abridgement of Shakespeare's well-known play by Adrian Piotrowski and Sergei Radloff. Prokofiev completed the score on 1935 ως παραγγελία των μπαλέτων Κίροφ της Αγίας Πετρούπολης. The ballet was premiered in a choreography by the Czech dancer and choreographer Ivan Psota, at 30 December 1938, in Brno, Czechoslovakia. However, the ballet became famous in the choreography of Leonid Lavrovsky, which was presented on 11 January 1940 from Kirov, with Galina Ulanova and Konstantin Sergeev. The most famous choreographies in the West remain those of John Cranko (1958) and Kenneth MacMillan (1965).

The third production
The masterpiece ballet "Romeo and Juliet" by Prokofiev, which was based on Shakespeare's play, is the third production of the ELS ballet in the artistic period 2011-12. After "Everybody Waltz", "Don Quixote" but also "Faust", οι χορευτές του μπαλέτου της ΕΛΣ καλούνται να αναμετρηθούν με ένα από τα πιο απαιτητικά μπαλέτα όλων των εποχών.

Road 2012: Tribute to the music of Mimi Plessas at the Athens Concert Hall

His name has been associated with the "golden age" of Greek cinema. With a host of top performers, many
of whom he highlighted through his songs (from Nana Mouschouri and Marinella to Yiannis Poulopoulos and Yiannis Vogiatzis). Although the compositional work of Mimi Plessas does not stop there, however, the folk music he wrote for the big screen and the stage are the ones that have been widely accepted for years now by those Greeks who still fall in love and dream, to sing and dance with their soul.

To the prolific creator who has over fifty years of successful career, the Concert Hall dedicates an evening filled with his songs that we all loved, songs that move us as they hold up to this day, all their freshness.

In the concert-tribute to the fruitful and consistent course of Mimi Plessas in the Greek pentagram, which will take place on Tuesday 24 April, at 8.30 in the evening in the Christos Lambrakis Hall, the first place is held by the pieces from the famous Cycle of songs of "The Road" (1969) – songs included on the album of the same name, the first Greek to become gold – , pieces from the Cycle "Talk to me about freedom" – banned by the junta of colonels – as was the song "Tonight I Got Grace", all in lyrics by Lefteris Papadopoulos.

Four accomplished performers of the younger generation, Gerasimos Andreatos, Melina Aslanidou, Rita Antonopoulou and Spyros Kleissas, accompanied by the "En Fonais" Choir and the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra - under the musical direction of Miltos Logiadis - undertake to give the trigger for an evening of genuine folk entertainment with audience participation. The orchestrations of the songs are signed by the composer. The repertoire consultant is Giorgos Monemvasitis.

They cooperate with the Orchestra: o Mimis Plessas on the piano, George Pahis (bouzouki), Nasos Sopilis (keys) and Dimitris Stasinos (electric guitar).

The concert-tribute to the music of Mimi Plessas is part of the Greek Song Series.

Who doesn't know and hasn't sung "The Statue", "Maria laughed", "Get My Girl Drunk Tonight", Sunday dawns, "First time" or "Give me your mouth"; Pieces that along with so much more, famous and beloved ("The Madman", "Frankoklissa", "I got cloud two places", "Myrsini puts on the whites", "Twelve Mandolins", "There was a deep silence") are included in the now legendary "Road" of Mimi Plessas. In the first Greek record to go gold, album that broke every sales record in the years that followed.

His story began one night at the house of Lefteris Papadopoulos, when Mimis Plessas accidentally saw some of his scattered manuscripts on the table. Feeling “unspeakable tenderness as I read them, since they described my teenage years, the years during the Occupation", as he himself narrates, he asked the great lyricist to take them to set to music. The composer wrote their music in two days, the late director of the Lyra company, Alekos Patsifas, he immediately approved them, even giving the title of the album, and so things went their way. These songs, with Yannis Poulopoulos as the main performer as well as Rena Koumiotis and Popi Asteriadis, recorded – within 10 by Dimitra Papanastassopoulou is published by Dioptra Publications – at Columbia Studios and released it 1969.

In January 1970 "The Road" was transferred to the stage of the "Paxinos" theater, with the same coefficients. But he was censored and hunted by the dictatorial regime as extra songs were added to the show that contained clear messages against him: the "six men" ("Six bothered them but did not testify" ) performed by Yannis Poulopoulos and "Tell me about freedom (and the sun will come back)» by Rena Koumiotis, (songs contained in the following album of the duo Plessa-Papadopoulos "Speak to me for freedom" 1974) while "Tonight I Got My Grace" was bootlegged as an independent single in the same year, the 1970 in the 'Poulopoulos 4' edition. The album "Talk to me about freedom", unlike "The Road", is considered one of the most "unfair" in the history of Greek music as the lyrics of his songs with the main theme of the "black" but also such a historic period for our country 1940-41, they disturbed the junta of the colonels which banned its circulation.

The album though, was published after the post-colonial revolution but was "lost" in the overabundance of political songs that overwhelmed Greek music production at that time. Nevertheless, it deserves special attention since it includes pieces ("this sky", "It was October (Fascism will not pass)», "Heaven", "Jannis", “The cicada (In Pelion)», "The Killed Boy", "from hunger", "Talk to me about freedom", "my mother", "My imprisoned moon", "Six Men" and "The Last Days"), που μεταφέρουν νοερά τον ακροατή στη ζοφερή εποχή της Κατοχής μέσα από τις συγκλονιστικές εικόνες των στίχων του Λευτέρη Παπαδόπουλου.

Dancing the power of love

The Nederlands Dans Theater presents two choreographies at the Concert Hall

Two choreographies-portraits of the power of love to unite and mark even when it has been lost he presents in his new performances at the Athens Concert Hall (5-8 April, Alexandra Trianti Hall, at 20.00) the famous Nederlands Dans Theater.

In the framework of the stable cooperation with Megaros, which was inaugurated on 2008, the band from the Netherlands that has been indelibly stamped by its recently artistic director, Jirji Kilian, presents "lust" (Longing) and her "Butterfly" (butterfly), works signed by its two leading choreographers, Paul Lightfoot and Saul Leon. The works will be danced by the "big" team of NDT, the NDTI (the whole is divided into two groups, NDTI which is staffed by established dancers and NDT II which is made up of new emerging talents).

"Lust" begins with an impressive scenic find: a couple dances inside a cube which is suspended on stage, a surreal little space that constantly changes positions, with door and window in paradoxical places, which indicate the difficulty of escape. A soloist, on the level of the dark stage, he follows with his movements the difficult "dialogue" of the couple. The two dancers move around each other to the notes of Beethoven. Their movements indicate a relationship with anxieties and efforts. At some point the man finds a way out, he'll be back soon, but the cracks don't heal and it's the woman's turn to leave. The cube retreats to the back of the stage and the piece evolves into a spectacular ensemble performance.

"Butterfly" focuses on another kind of love and devotion: of elderly care, parents and loved ones, of the tenderness that returns with their impending death, of loss and the huge void that follows it.

Maria Farandouri and Christos Thivaios at the Athens Concert Hall

The leading performer of the art Greek song and the sensitive troubadour of the younger generation reveal their musical kinship through the interpretation of their classic hits as well as well-known or "misrecognized" songs that for the first time they "dress" with their own voice: timeless pieces of Theodorakis, Hadjidaki, Little one, Vail, Dala et al. in Tripolitan poetry, Eleftheriou, John, Brecht, Hikmet etc.

Maria Farandouri-Christos Thebeos: the "ideal performer" of Mikis Theodorakis, leading presence in artistic Greek song but also in the corresponding international repertoire (from Kurt Weill to Lucio Dalla) meets the sensitive troubadour of the younger generation, partner of Thanos Mikroutsikos, in a special concert where "the songs and their truth build bridges between past and present and become the occasion for unprecedented interpretative journeys".

On Saturday 7 April, at 8.30 at night, in the Christos Lambrakis Hall – four years after their first collaboration at the Athens Concert Hall with the songs "Love and Death" in music M. Theodorakis – the two great artists reunite on stage to reveal the "common" mark of their musical legacy. To interpret not only selected, their classic hits as well as well-known songs that for the first time "dress up" with their own voice, as well as others, less known – if not "disrecognized" – whose greatness they are trying to highlight in this case.

The performing duo is accompanied by an orchestra consisting of the elite soloists Takis Farazis (piano), Thymio Papadopoulos (crust), Giannis Angelopoulos (drums), Petro Varthakouris (contrabass), Vasso Dimitriou (guitars). The orchestration is by Takis Farazis. The sound is managed by Giorgos Korres and the lighting by Giorgos Kladouris.

The event is a co-production of Megaros Musikis and Cricos Productions.

"Timeless" Songs, inspired, in their entirety, from the catalytic writing of important poets and lyricists, Greeks and foreigners (Nikos Kavadias, Manolis Anagnostakis, Costa Tripoliti, Manos Eleftheriou, Odysseus Ioannou, Bertolt Brecht, Nazim Hikmet et al. So, for example, Maria Farandouri delivers once again with the characteristic, her rich contralto voice "Who is my life", "Funny child" or "Old streets" by Mikis Theodorakis, "Kemal" by Manos Hadjidakis, "Anti-nausea" by Eleni Karaindros and "Eleni" by Thanos Mikroutsikos, however, it also competes with the latter's "Thessaloniki"..

Being the first performer of Brecht in the Greek discography, sings "Mack the knife" from "Pentara's Opera" or "Anna don't cry" from "Brecht's Musical Act" by Th. Little one. While in memory of the recently lost Lucio Dalla – her partner in the past – she performs his famous "Caruzo". Christos Thibeos shares with the Megaros audience his personal hits such as "My Rain", Hamlets of the Moon, "I'm not another" or songs from "Southern Cross" by Thanos Mikroutsikos while performing with passion, power and lyricism in the "Beautiful city" by Mikis Theodorakis.

"The songs and their truth are everything, what unites us with Christos Thebes. The life values that are hidden behind catalytic and deeply philosophical verses, values that have not been lost in time.

Regardless of their age, from their widespread or not recognition, we both try to include these songs in our repertoire" says Maria Farandouri, referring to the concert but also her "musical affinity" with the contemporary songwriter and charismatic performer "on the level of expression, aesthetics and content".

Kinship revealed on stage for the first time the 2008 at the Athens Concert Hall where Christos Thivaios collaborated for the first time with Mikis Theodorakis, performing songs from four of the composer's song cycles – μεταξύ άλλων και από το «Ένας Όμηρος» σε στίχους του Ιρλανδού Μπρεντάν Μπεχάν (in a Greek rendering by Vassilis Rotas). From this circle of his 1966 – first performed by M. Farantouri – six songs will be heard in this concert as well ("September I remember", "I'll send you mother", "Open the window", "I'll give you a piece of gold", "I'm English Young and Lucky" and "Funny Kid").

From the rich work of the composer, the pieces "Passenger" have also been selected, "Given to your night" and "Apostema" from his album "Passenger". 1981 in verses by the important poet-lyricist Kostas Tripolitis, the "Old Streets" (from his album "Balantes". 1975 in poetry Manolis Anagnostakis), "Who owns my life" (from his "Songs of the Struggle". 1974 in poetry by Manos Eleftheriou), "beautiful city" (from his album of the same name 1962, in lyrics by Yiannis Theodorakis), "Someday they will come to tell you" (in lyrics by Lefteris Papadopoulos).

In the concert program, the compositional work of Thanos Mikroutsikos has a leading position. From the era of "Political Songs" (1975) from where you will hear "The most beautiful sea" in lyrics by Nazim Hikmet and "I'm tired of them" in lyrics by Wolf Biermann, from "The Musical Act to Brecht" (1978) ("Anna don't cry") and the "Southern Cross" (1979) in the poetry of Nikos Kavadias ("Bitterness", "Thessaloniki", "Aladdin's Lamp", «Willie»)to the latest "Hamlet of the Moon" (2002) from where the title track as well as "Song Blues" will be heard (f.:K. Tripolitan) and "I'm No Other" (f.: Manos Eleftheriou). Inextricably linked to the style and ethos of the event, and the songs "Kemal" by Manos Hadjidakis (from his "Reflections". 1993, in lyrics by Nikos Gatsos) and “Anti-dizziness (My child, do not sleep)» by Eleni Karaindrou (from his "Great vigilance". 1972). The satirical Brechtian lyrics of the ballad "Mack the knife" set to music by Kurt Weill from "The Quintessential Opera" and the "Alabama song" from the iconic "Rise and Fall of Mahogany City". As well as "Counting time" with music by Lucio Dalla (and lyrics by Dionysis Savvopoulos from his album "The Hotel", 1997) but also his melodic "Caruzo" which Maria Farandouri had recorded for the first time in 1991, in a duet with D. Savvopoulos for the album "17 songs".
