I will get you to leave: Greece through the inspection at the Badminton Theater

The Badminton Theatre, honoring the Athenian Review, this great chapter of the Greek theater, presents a music and dance extravaganza that tells the story of Greece through the course of the Athenian revue.
The protagonist is herself "Madam Inspection", who returns to the stage to travel her comper-grandson back in time, in its most important moments.
A 35-member troupe of elite actors, singers, musicians and dancers bring the adventures to life, her suxes and loves.

The mythical protagonists parade on the board, the inimitable sayings, the great voices, the immortal songs, the worldly haunts and glamorous fashion of a golden age. And up close the current affairs, political and social changes, urbanization, the fate of Greece - always with humor and a satirical mood.

The Lady Inspection takes the viewer by the hand and, including, shows him around: at the Theater Mondial in the revue "Modern Girls", when Zaza Brillanti clashes with the Kaloutas sisters∙ in Athens in the 1940s, when Vembo changes the words to “Zehra” and sings “Children, of Greece's Children" at the Park Theater in the 60s, when Aliki Vougiouklakis replaces Dimitris Horn for a performance in "Street of Dreams". Yet, guides viewers through historical inspections "Yuppie Ya", "Women and Flowers", "The Athens of '64", "Tickling Tickles" and so many others∙ in the happiest for the spectators theatrical competition, when "Beautiful City" by Mikis Theodorakis was staged at the Park Theater and "Street of Dreams" by Manos Hadjidakis a few meters away, at the Metropolitan Theatre.

Through the journey of the Lady Inspection, Georgia Vasiliadou, Kostas Hatzichristos, Vassilis Avlonitis, and Mimis Fotopoulos return to comment on today's Greece, which has so much in common with the Greece of that time. Besides, the Lady Inspection, married in the show to a right-handed person but in love with a left-handed person, torn between the urban and the popular, humor and seriousness, it is the eternally divided Greece.

Tango Greco: The most beautiful Greek tangos from ancient Athens to our days at Badminton

The Badminton Theater presents an evening entitled "Tango Greco", in which the most beautiful Greek tangos will be presented, on Monday 18 January 2013.

When the 1930 the "king of tango" Eduardo Bianco arrives in Athens for the first time, Athens is "tango occupied". The arrival of a leading foreign representative of Argentine tango was a great worldly event. Bianco will include Michalis Souyoul in his orchestra and they will play together in different parts of Greece…

The concert series "The Themes of Greek Music and Greek Song", conducted by the composer Michalis Koubios, presents us with the most beautiful Greek tangos. From ancient Athens to the present day. Because many old songs will always coexist with new ones, as the, what finally comes close to Art, it moves outside of time.

The tangos of composers such as: Attic, Kostas Giannidis, Michalis Suyul, Christos Hairopoulos, Manos Hadjidakis, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Eleni Karaindrou, Stamatis Kraunakis et al. they will perform four exquisite and special voices. Glyceria, Christos Thebeos, the mezzo-soprano Eleni Voudouraki and the tenor Yiannis Christopoulos, while a group of prize-winning dancers from the Academia del tango will dance them.

Tango is a world rhythm that since its birth, loves to travel.

Tango is believed to have its roots in African rhythms. They are rhythms that traveled long distances and thus evolved, they changed. They arrived in Spain with the Arab conquerors to later migrate to the American continent. This is how the danzon and habanera were created in Cuba and the Tango in Uruguay and Argentina.

Around the 1870 tango is spreading both in and around Uruguay and Argentina 1890 settles permanently in Buenos Aires, starting with the infamous bars, mainly from those of slaughterhouses, where the gauchos (the South American cowboys) they give it their own temperament and personal nostalgia.

Initially he is banned, illegal and danced by men, but not in amorous moods, but aggressive, as they are men girded with knives dancing in a warlike atmosphere. However, tango will escape from the popular neighborhoods of Buenos Aires and will reach cosmopolitan Paris where it will be Europeanized and develop into an erotic, classy dance.

The tango from Paris is spreading quickly throughout the old Epirus and of course its waves are not long in "hitting" all of Greece. Even at the festivals of the Greek countryside, accordion viols, clarinet and lute as well as the Cretan lyre convey the melancholic thought that is being danced. Sure, what the Greek traditional orchestras played, it was but the echo of the great fashion of the Athenian salons. There, where tangos were a key ingredient in secular teas (tea) and the dance parties. Over the years, tango entered modern Greek song as well…

At Tango Greco you will hear the greatest Greek tangos, from the 1930s to the present day.

The musical performance Tango Greco is held with the support of the urban non-profit company AKOS "Cancer: Treatment of Body and Soul" in the framework of its Hellenic campaign entitled "Study in the human body - Prevention projects" for the information, the prevention and treatment of cancer. AKOS sends the message: "I love and take care of my body".

Theseus and Ariadne in Bull Island at the Badminton Theatre

The Badminton Theatre presents the children's show "Theseus and Ariadne on the island of Taurus" Is the motto of the 16th Spare Parts Bazaar 26 January – 28 April 2013.

Theseus and Ariadne on the Island of the Bulls, the first Greek children's theater production to stage Badminton, is a show that combines the spectacular with the educational character of ancient Greek myths.

The show tells the story of the mythical hero Theseus, son of King Aegeus and founder of Athens. Theseus, after breathtaking feats, travels to Crete and, with the help of the Gods and the beautiful Ariadne, defeats the Minotaur. The plot is riveting: all the Greek mythology - heroes participate in the adventure, mortals, wonderful but also terrible supernatural beings and of course the Olympian Gods.  From work to work and from city to city, knitwear is woven, hatred, suffering, but also friendships and loves and above all love! Battles languish on the road of Theseus, storms, mermaids – the adventures for true heroes never end.

Palaces parade on stage, seas, fortresses, ships, labyrinths, mermaids, bulls – bull eating –  gods emerging from the bowels of the earth, or fall from the sky, heroes, mortals, bright but also dark supernatural beings!

The text is signed by the acclaimed poet Stratis Paschalis.  The direction and choreography is by award-winning choreographer Sofia Spyratou. The original score was composed by one of the most remarkable young composers, who stood out through Schoolwave, Apollo Retsos. The imposing sets and costumes were designed by the always imaginative Manolis Pantelidakis, who created an impressive visual world, which gives the spectacle special, unforgettable authenticity. The size and quality of the show ensure, also, the Badminton Theater and Michalis Adams who signs the production.

More than twenty talented artists – aerial acrobats, actors, singers,  μουσικοί¬, some of whom are invited from abroad especially for this production – give flesh and bones to the legend.

The show stars one of the most important actors of the younger generation, Yannis Stankoglou, in the role of Theseus. With him the: Electra Nikolouzou and Georgina Paleothodorou. They also participate (in alphabetical order): Anna Athanasiadis, Alexandros Keivanais, Amalia Kosmas, Alexandros Laskaratos, Chloe Mantzari, Jeff Marawi, Yanna Medvedeva, George Pelagias, Chris Radanov, Alain Rivero Rodriguez, Yannis Smeros, Ivan Svitailo, Angeliki Trombouki, Alberto Feis, Rania Fovou, Iove Fragatou, Evi Hatzakis et al.

Theseus and Ariadne in Bull Island is a show that marks a new concept for children's theater, in a production equal to all the great shows hosted at the Badminton Theatre.
The archetypal Greek mythology and the rich, impressive sight for children are perceived as a top quality and priority educational process – especially in an age of emerging extremes – that the emphasis on reasonable moderation taught by classical education is vital.  Because the play talks about the meeting of two different cultures: on the one hand the measure and reason of Athens and on the other the mysticism and fist of the Minoan sea rule. The two cultures open a dialogue and get to know each other, conveying an important message to children.

The show is perfect for all ages!

Theatrical "Mauthausen" signed by Campanelli – Theodorakis

The shocking chronicle of a personal experience on the Badminton scene

Mauthausen: The chronicle of a personal experience that captured one of the most shocking events in world history is brought to the stage. The most personal book of Iakovos Campanellis, there is also a performance from Thursday (6/12) comes to life at the Badminton Theatre.
"This is a chronicle, for a true story", points out Stelios Mainas who together with Katia Sperelakis and the director of the show Themis Moumoulidis, they sign the script. "It is not a theatrical text and Campanellis himself never wanted to change its form. He wanted to leave it as a testimony, as a document because that's the only way you can deal with it. We took the text with absolute respect and without changing it. This terrible river of events is not conveyed". That's why they kept it as a basic pattern, love as an event-cause. "And in particular the love of the hero, who is none other than Campanellis, for a Lithuanian woman. Imprisoned and condemned as they were, but they also found a place for feelings, for love, for life... And these “days and nights of love” as the creator himself notes, is what kept their humanity alive".
The book, reminds Stelios Mainas, "starts from May 5th, day of liberation and returns with a flashback to all the events that preceded it. The prisoners are now freed and against their will to return to life, they realized how close they were to each other, where returning home seemed like an elusive dream" he continues. And it is completed by the actor who plays the role of the narrator-Cambanelli, who visits Mauthausen after years: "We attempt to present the emotional inner revival of a whole world which was then attempted to be crushed. But they didn't make it. The IS failed to bend human dignity".
WHEN WHERE Badminton Ticket Prices : 10 – 16 – 22 – 28 – 38 Euro Performances: Thursday 6/12 as Sunday 9/12 at 20.30, Monday & Tuesday 10-11/12, at 19.00, Wednesday 12/12 at 20.00. Plus Saturday and Sunday, 8 & 9/12 at 17.00
The idea of the show belongs to Themis Moumoulidis and the promise he made to his daughter Campanellis, Katerina. Mikis Theodorakis did not take long to say "yes" to his own music, and so things went their way. "Campanelli's speech is so theatrical, it is so penetrating that our work was complementary", emphasizes Stelios Mainas. "All the work has been done by the creator himself. We are just the managers" he adds.
As soon as the first six shows were announced the public responded to such an extent that the organizers added first one more show and then two more. In total, there will be nine performances at Badminton with two and a half thousand seats – from Thursday 6/12 as well as Wednesday 12/12.
The prescribed success seems to have an answer in the names of the two creators: of the author and the composer. «Brand names», characterizes, as a matter of course, Campanellis and Theodorakis Stelios Mainas. And he's right....

The show Fuerza Bruta, Look up, που αποθεώνεται στη Νέα Υόρκη, θα βρεθεί για λίγες μόνο παραστάσεις στο θέατρο Badminton στην Αθήνα από τις 22 September 2012.
