How fasting can benefit us

Connect to the source…
The tradition of fasting  Traditionally after Christmas and before Easter, most of us have fasted from time to time, or at least we have tried to fast, for our own reasons. Besides, fasting according to Greek-Orthodox Christianity does not require suffering, but probably one a test of mind and body.  The combination of these also constitutes the "fortress" against gluttony and vile thoughts, words and deeds. Alongside, our fasting is unique since if we put them down, covers a large part of calendar time (about 180-200 days) and presents several variations. So, in the words of numbers, the Lenten fast lasts 48 days, of Christmas others 40 and August 15. These days are considered days systematic and relatively strict fasting.  Additional, periodically fasting days are Wednesday and Friday, while in many monasteries the monks also fast on Mondays dedicated to the Angels and monasticism (or "angelic life").     The Diet of Lent and Holy Week  Nutritionally now, the general lines concern the avoiding animal foods  , that is, meat,  eggs and dairy products (cheese, milk and yogurt).  In particular, we do not eat during Lent and Holy Week meat, dairy products, eggs, fish and olive oil.  Of course, fish is allowed on 25 Of March (where the traditional meal is garlic cod) and Palm Sunday, while olive oil only on weekends. Legumes are recommended instead of the above, fruits, vegetables, seafood, greens, bread, potatoes and occasionally, pasta or some fasting sweet (halva, pastel). A little wine with food is also allowed,  up to a glass  if we want to talk in dietary terms. At first glance, we realize that fasting before Easter constitutes a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol and rich in monounsaturated fat, fiber and vitamins. What does this mean for our organization?;   Continue at source ....

The G7 energy ministers did not find them on climate change

Go to the source of the Article.
The energy ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) of the most developed industrialized countries failed to agree on a joint statement at their meeting in Rome today, because of US reservations about climate change, an Italian minister said. The US said it 'reserved’ regarding the G7 commitments they made when signing the Paris climate agreement, said Italian Economic Development Minister Carlo Calenda, who presided over this meeting.   It was therefore not possible to sign a joint declaration by all G7 members (USA, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, Canada and Italy), he clarified.   In the face of US reservations, which have confirmed that they are in a phase of reviewing their position on the issue of climate change, Italy decided not to propose a joint statement, Kalenda also explained.   US President Donald Trump will take office by the end of May’ on the Paris climate agreement, which was signed at its end 2015 from more than 190 Countries, including the US, but was heavily criticized during the election campaign, the White House announced at the end of March.

What to look for when shopping for the Easter table

The Unified Food Control Agency (APPEAL) issued on its official website advice on what to pay attention to when shopping ahead of Easter.

EFET is intensifying the controls carried out on the food market during the Easter period in order to protect the health and interests of consumers from undermining practices, mainly for the meat market. In particular, EFET advises:

Do not buy lamb carcasses (lambs and goats) which do not bear the prescribed seals because they did not undergo the necessary veterinary-sanitary control and were probably slaughtered in places not controlled by the Veterinary Services and under unsanitary conditions. For all domestically produced lamb carcasses, the seal of approval is turquoise’ ('bright blue', pigment E 133) and is oval or round in shape, where the approval number of the slaughterhouse is indicated. The country of origin should be written on a rectangular parallelogram stamp, 'THEY’ ή 'THE'. For lamb carcasses originating from Community countries the seal of suitability is turquoise’ ('bright blue', pigment E 133) or red (pigment E 129, red Aliura) and is oval or round in shape, where the approval number of the slaughterhouse is indicated. A rectangular parallelogram stamp should contain the initials of the name of the Community country of origin, For the carcasses of amnoerifis imported from third countries, Greek or not slaughter, all stamps must be in 'brown', (coloring E155) i.e. the stamp of suitability (oval or round) and a stamp of a rectangular parallelogram inside which is also written the name of the third country, Each carcass must be stamped on both shoulder blades and on both outer sides of the thighs. Consumers should be aware that carcasses which do not bear any seals, or bear stamps other than those prescribed, are bound by the competent control authorities. Το κρέας από το αρνάκι γάλακτος έχει ροζ χρώμα, τα κόκαλα του είναι λεπτά και το λίπος του άσπρο.   Continue at source ...

Invitation to participate in the 9th Art Exhibition of Elefsina with the theme "Journey"

Connecting to the source…
«…Διαβάτη δεν υπάρχει δρόμος, τον δρόμο τον φτιάχνεις βαδίζοντας…» – Αντόνιο Ματσάδο

THE Annual Art Exhibition of Elefsina  , for the 9th year this year, calls the creators, where they live, originate from or are inspired by Eleusis, to narrate their experiences through visual language, with individual or group works of art of any kind. THE deadline for submitting the participation file  in the report is up to Thursday 11 May  . Αναλυτικά οι όροι συμμετοχής και περισσότερες πληροφορίες θα βρείτε στην ιστοσελίδα της έκθεσης .
Στόχος του Δήμου Ελευσίνας είναι «…T’ ωραίο ταξίδι…», even if reality does not come close to places of mythical and poetic utopia, let art itself become the way, the adventure, the shelter and the destination.
Και δεν χρειάζεται πάντα να πάμε μακριά: sometimes thought becomes a vehicle, bringing into the closed room allegories, fantasies, scam countries. Art is also a "travel" medium par excellence, enough to act as an antidote to mental laziness, expanding our horizons towards a deeper understanding of the essence of the world.
