The need for compensation due to the disasters caused by the bad weather is pointed out by the Federation of Livestock Associations and Livestock Breeders of the Thessaly Region in a letter to the Minister of Rural Development Vangelis Apostolou. As reported by the Federation, the result of the recent theomenism was "that many animals died from the cold, there would be a big drop in the production of goat and sheep milk and an increased cost of animal feed as there was no possibility of external grazing". There were also "several problems on livestock farms with water as it was not possible to transport it due to the heavy snowfall". The breeders point out that it is "considered imperative" to compensate them "for loss of production through programs for severe weather events - as they were given in the past- as well as the direct compensation of the farmers, whose animals died of the disease, through ELGA".
