A cell phone antenna that can be mounted on a drone has been developed by researchers at the University of North Texas, for use in areas affected by natural disasters- which tend to wear down telecommunication infrastructures.
"We have demonstrated a portable communication system that can be mounted on a drone," said Kamesh Namounduri, assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at UNT. "The system, with a transmission power of only 250 milliwatts,is capable of providing instant mobile network coverage within a radius of two kilometers during disaster response operations. If its scale is increased to 10watt,can provide cell phone coverage to an entire city like Denton(Texas)».
