Lots of interesting news from the global presentation of the new Smart, as is the return of the four-door Forfour, but also the greater comfort of the Fortwo.
New beginning from November for Smart. The miniature model specialist will launch in addition to the new generation two-door Fortwo and the four-seater Forfour. The Daimler subsidiary presented its two new models at an impressive event in Berlin, which we watched live streaming on gazzetta.gr. Of course, that we are in Berlin, from where we convey our first impressions.
The two-seater Fortwo gets a regular front bonnet, although the motor is still not under it, which is placed behind. Its length remains unchanged (2,69 m.), but it will be more flexible than the previous one thanks to the total turning diameter of the 7,30 μ. We should also point out the increase in width by 10 centimeters, so that the movements become much more comfortable. There have also been major interventions in the posts and the sazman, to make the car run smoother and without sudden reactions. A five-speed manual transmission will be standard equipment, upon order, a double-clutch automatic with six ratios will also be provided.
Customers will be able to choose between three three-cylinder petrol engines. An atmospheric one in versions 60 and 71 of horses and a turbo with 90 horses. The same engines will be used in the four-door Forfour, which has several visual similarities in the grille and rear to the smaller Fortwo.
Forfour features 3,49 μ. length and 62 centimeter longer wheelbase. The interior is dominated by pop colors, while the characteristic round tachometer in the cockpit remained. The air-conditioning is also adjustable with a sliding switch. The larger Smart shares the same floor as the Renault Twingo and has a trunk with minimal volume 185 l, if the rear seats are folded down, however, it is launched to 975 l. Regarding prices, it is too early to say anything absolutely specific, but they will start indicatively between 10.000 and 11.000 euro. The Forfour will cost approx 600 euros more expensive than the two-seater Fortwo. However, the two brothers are not inseparable, since the small one will be manufactured in France and the larger one in Slovenia.
