Compulsory introduction of the system has been requested by the FIA
Until the 2015 instead of him 2017 asked the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile – FIA by MEPs to adopt a compromise solution that would allow the mandatory introduction of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) on motorcycles over 125 cubic.
The president of the Dutch Automobile Club (ANWB), member of the FIA stated: "According to research, introducing ABS on motorcycles could save more than 1500 lives up to 2015. If we consider that there are no problems for the introduction of ABS, we need to move as fast as possible before 2015".
According to the FIA, despite efforts to date, motorcyclist deaths have not seen the same decline as car crashes in the past decade. The ABS system is able to improve the vehicle's braking behavior.
FIA Director General Jacob Bangsgaard stated that "the use of ABS for high-powered motorcycles has already increased by 5% last year in Italy, one of the largest two-wheel markets in Europe" and added that today the 23% of motorcycles in Italy have ABS.
End, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile notes that the period up to 2017 for the introduction of the ABS system by the industries, not justified on technical or cost grounds. The case of Italy proves that the industry is ready for the full utilization of the technology.
