Without Berliner Ensemble and Royal Stockholm Theater but with Schaubuehne and Fiona Shaw
Without the performances of the Berliner Ensemble, of the Royal Stockholm Drama Theater and the Propeller Theater Company directed by Edward Hall (whose participation in Epidaurus had been ruled out early on but he was "playing" his eventual appearance in Herodion), but with the addition of two producers from the famous Schaubuehne and the new appearance of the particularly beloved in our country Irish actress and director Fiona Shaw, was finalized, finally this year's program of the Athens Festival.
In the context of an extremely difficult financial year for the organization, which created problems in the preparation of the programming as a result of which callbacks from abroad were affected , the start will be on 8 June with Zimmerman and De Pero – the group from Switzerland which combines dance, stunts and original music- who will present their new work entitled "Hans was Heiri" in Piraeus 260.
In Piraeus, besides, both Schaubuehne productions will be presented: on the 21st and 22 In June, Strinberg's "Miss Julie" will be presented, directed by English Katie Mitchell, while on 23 and 24 of the month "The Return of Odysseus" will be played (a compilation of texts by Homer as well as foreign authors) directed by David Marton.
The famous Berlin choreographer Sasha Waltz with the performer “Continu” will appear on 11 July at the theater of Herodos of Atticus, while the new production by "our" Dimitris Papaioannou is entitled "Primary Material" and will be presented on the 1st and 2 July in Piraeus 260.
The Athens Concert Hall will host the performance of the Perm Opera Ballet with "Weddings" (choreography by Girzi Kilian) and "Petruska", both to music by Stravinsky (12 July). The Ballet will accompany “live” the Russian ensemble Musica Aeterna under Theodoros Kourentzis, the Greek chief musician who has an important career abroad. Two days earlier, at 10 July, the Musica Aeterna – and again under Th. Kourentzis- will give a concert with works by Russian composers at Megaro.
In Little Epidaurus, end, Fiona Shaw will appear with the “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” by the poet Samuel Coleridge (3,4 July)
