When books are read by companies

A workshop is held on Saturday at the National Library

Of the recent phenomena in the field of Greek books - but not at all unknown in the European field- reading clubs have helped to promote the love of reading and promote the book. How are they created?, to whom they are addressed, how they work in the context of education; These issues, will be discussed at a workshop on "Books and friends" co-organized by the THALIS+FRIENDS group and the National Library of Greece, on Saturday 28 April, Is the motto of the 16th Spare Parts Bazaar 10.00 a.m. until 2.00 Creation "regarding the modern administration and the European ones, in the Reading Room of the National Library (University 32).

The THALIS Group + FRIENDS was founded in 2005 by mathematicians and writers Apostolos Doxiadis, Tevkros Michaelidis and the professor of the Department of Statistics of the Athens University of Economics Petros Dellaporta. Their need to explore the relationship between math and storytelling led them to create reading clubs, initially in schools and then in various places, from bookstores and cafes to home living rooms. Today, the THALIS+FRIENDS group has been the inspiration for the creation 350 reading clubs throughout Greece, from Crete to Soufli.

During the conference, authors will talk about the relationship between storytelling and mathematics, while coordinators from the reading clubs will share their experiences with the audience..

10.00 a.m.: Round table with the authors Apostolos Doxiadis, Dimitris Kapetanaki, Giannis Karvelis, Tevkros Michaelidis, Argyri Pavliotis, Soti Triantafillou. It is coordinated by the educator and translator Stamos Tsitsonis.

11.00 a.m.: Round table with teachers and coordinators of school reading clubs Ilias Andrianos, Thanasi Vlacho, Katerina Kalfopoulou, Alkisti Patrineli, Spyros Stouris, Maria Falida. It is coordinated by teacher Stavroula Papanikolaou.

It will follow, at 12.30 Creation "regarding the modern administration and the European ones, speech by the professor at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Patras Tasos Bundis, on "Complexity Science and the Role of Mathematical Modeling". The conference will close with a discussion with the audience.

Material from the activities of the THALIS+FRIENDS group as well as from the activities of the reading clubs will be hosted in the Reading Room of the National Library from Wednesday 25 April to Monday 30 April.
