New format from On Telecoms, NetOne and Algonet

In the creation of a new format in the Greek telecommunications market, through "express" merger procedures, the management of On Telecoms is proceeding with the management of the companies NetOne and Algonet. The two shapes will be merged into one, aiming to create a critical mass in the telecommunications market and manage to survive in the competitive market environment. The merger in question will take place without the payment of cash and exclusively through an exchange of shares, in proportion approximately 1 to 3. The resulting new company will retain the On Telecoms brand name, which is clearly more powerful than that of NetOne and Algonet. However, the main shareholders of the scheme Algonet and NetOne will regain control of the company, as then, they will be called upon to cover an increase in the share capital in the new company amounting to 10-15 million. euro. It is recalled that the shareholder of the Algonet-NetOne companies is Sciens Capital Management, BNP Paribas Private Equity and the Olayan group. On the On Telecoms side, the main shareholder is ARGO Capital Partners Ltd.
Market players cited the risk being taken by the shareholders of the two schemes as the liquidity pressure that existed on both sides did not allow the luxury of financial and legal control of the businesses (due diligence). As a consequence, it is possible that there will be many surprises, given the accumulated losses in all three businesses. It is recalled that only On Telecoms in its first use 2007 showed height losses 22 million. euro, while NetOne at its end 2007 had accumulated height damage 24 million. euro. End, for the same year Algonet had accumulated losses of approx 5 million. euro. The latter, however, had started to show profits, as it stood outside the unbundled access market (LLU), which, due to high investments, caused the "financial hemorrhaging" of players in fixed communications. On Telecoms announced yesterday that a few days ago the process of increasing its share capital was completed by 26,3 million. euro, by its existing shareholders, with the certification of the payment of the relevant funds. However, it is not specified how much of the specific increase in share capital was carried out through debt capitalization and through the payment of cash.

The extraordinary general meeting of OTE went smoothly

Yesterday, the extraordinary general meeting of OTE shareholders was held without a hitch. During the meeting, the shareholders approved the changes to the organization's statutes (in order to adapt to the shareholder agreement of last May) while the purchase of the same shares in a price range was reauthorized 3-30 euro, from 15-35 euros provided for by the previous decision. OTE announced that to date it has not purchased its own shares.
Additional, the shareholders of OTE approved the member of the Board of Directors. of the organization Mr. P. Tamburlo as chairman of the company's Audit Committee. The other members of the Committee were Mr. Leonidas Evaggelidis and Mrs. Xeni Skorini. End, the positions of the members of the board of directors were announced to the shareholders of OTE. which had been held at the previous extraordinary general meeting of its shareholders 6/2/2009. It was also announced that Mr. Guido Kerchoff, was appointed as a non-executive member, in place of Dr. Carl-Gerhard Icke, and for the remainder of his term, that is, until the date of the regular general meeting of shareholders for the year 2011.

At the same time, and given the reduction in international roaming SMS charges, the president of EETT urges the mobile companies to similarly reduce the charges for sending SMS within the country, which today reach the 10 to 13 euro minutes.
Multirama: to leave the ASE
It seems more and more likely that the procedure for the withdrawal of Multirama from the Athens Stock Exchange will soon begin, as Panos Germanos continues to buy shares and the percentage he controls has now exceeded 73,1%. The process actually started last Wednesday when Mr. German transferred all his participation in the Vandervelle company, which belongs to 100% to the Greek businessman. Vandervelle subsequently acquired Viktoros Resti's interest (20,24%) but also other shares and given that the markets continue, it is expected that there will soon be a public proposal for its acquisition 100% of Multirama and its exit from the board.
Internet penetration is increasing in Greece
The strengthening of the trust of Greeks towards electronic markets and the increase of penetration among citizens over 35 years, as well as the residents of several regions are the problems identified with regard to the penetration of the Internet in our country.
These conclusions emerge from the results of the 4th annual measurement of the Observatory for the Information Society that were made public last week. The research was carried out in the two months of October - November and they participated 5966 households and 1424 businesses.
According to the results, the 39,4% of Greek households now has access to the Internet at the population penetration rate (quarterly use is a prerequisite) to be formed in 38,8%. The increase in relation to 2007 she is impressive, since the respective rates were 30,2% (households) and 28,4% (population) and brings Greece a little closer to the averages of the European Union where the 60% of households has access to the Internet.
The increase, Nevertheless, seems to be solely due to the younger generation (15-34 years) where penetration rates approach those of the EU. On the contrary, gap continues to exist in ages 35 years and older. also, low rates of use are also observed in specific regions of the country (Continent, Thessaly and Western Macedonia).
According to Observatory officials, the change in user behavior is noticeable, who use the Internet for "advanced" services, as it is to watch and listen to the radio (44%), for internet telephony (18%), for online games (25%), for publishing content on sites (17%), while 9% of users has their own website or blog.
Where there is a significant lag compared to the rest of Europe is in electronic markets. The percentage of people who bought or ordered goods or services increased by just 3 percentage units in 8% of the population, while in the EU the corresponding number is at 24%. Additional, the use of online banking services showed a decrease from 13% the 2007 in the 12% the 2008, something that, combined with the low penetration of online shopping, shows that there is a trust problem on the part of Greek users.
The fact that Greek businesses do not show particular interest in electronic commerce also contributes to the relatively low rates of online shopping. It is characteristic that as soon as 0,36% of income in small businesses (1-9 workers) and 11% in the big ones (+10 workers) comes from internet sales. In the EU the 16% of revenue to businesses comes from their online stores. At least that 99% of the big ones and the 62% of small businesses have a computer, while the rates for Internet access are 96,6% and 50,9% respectively.
Altec: restructuring begins
The separation of the activities in the area of software and those of integrated solutions (integration) in two subsidiaries and the participation of the creditor banks in the equity capital of Altec through the universal restructuring of the debt, are the two main points of the latter's restructuring plan, which was finally signed last Wednesday. Although the percentage that the creditor banks will acquire was not announced (Rural, General, Eurobank, National, Commercial, Attica, Cyprus and Piraeus) may exceed the 50%. also, the plan includes the sale of Altec's proprietary properties, as well as holdings in various companies in order to reduce liabilities and strengthen liquidity.

Australia: ευρυζωνικότητα παντού
One of the most ambitious plans to provide broadband to an entire country has been announced by the Australian government. The fiber optic network expected to be ready within the next eight years will cost - based on existing estimates- about the 43 di. Australian dollars (about 31 di. dollars) and shall belong against 51% in the state, which will make the biggest part of the investment.
Australia intended to license the development of a nationwide fiber optic network to private individuals, however, the relevant tender process was ultimately declared fruitless and the government decided to make the investment itself. On the other, private individuals are also expected to be involved, as half of the funds will come from the sale of government bonds. Nevertheless, the share of the private persons shall in any case be at 49%.
HSPA record from Ericsson
Ericsson continues to increase HSPA speeds for even better user experience and sustainable mobile broadband growth. Faster data transfer speeds provide users with an instant connection. With a simple click on a web link, the corresponding page is displayed immediately, even when many users are online at the same time.
Ericsson broke its own HSPA world record, with the world's first demonstration of MIMO multi-carrier HSPA technology, offering top downlink data speeds 56 Mbps. The increase in speed is achieved thanks to the combination of multiple-input-multiple-output technology (MIMO) with the technology of many telecommunications operators. MIMO technology enables higher peak data transfer speeds and increased spectrum efficiency, which means more capacity for the network.
The demonstration was conducted on an experimental design version of an Ericsson mobile broadband router with HSPA capabilities. The consumer device will be able to be used wherever there is a need for broadband access, by sharing a mobile broadband connection to multiple consumers, resulting in efficient use of high-speed broadband.
Alongside, the Swedish company presented its most advanced mobile broadband module, exclusively designed with innovative features to provide everyone with a richer and more affordable internet experience. The next generation module is the latest milestone for Ericsson, reinforcing the company's vision of making communication possible for everyone.
Ericsson's F3607gw mobile-broadband module for HSPA/GPRS/EDGE networks, which is due to be released in June, will provide enhanced functions and facilities through its innovative capabilities, reduced energy consumption, extended battery life and increased level of integration, limiting the number of parts needed and, consequently, of the cost. The new module will also provide built-in mobile broadband support for Microsoft Windows 7.
