Honor in memory of Iakovos Campanellis

"The road passes through" at the Art Theatre
The Art Theater at 70 years of operation, wanting to honor the memory of Iakovos Campanellis, -author who closely connected his creation with the specific theater- chooses to stage as the opening play of the theater season 2011-2012, the project "The road passes through", directed by Diagoras Chronopoulos.
Written it 1990, is one of the most important and mature works of the great dramatist. Through one, apparently, simple story, Campanellis artfully outlines a conflicting field of principles and values, a battle between a fragile world that leaves and another that comes ruthless, uneducated. In his characters, who are perhaps the most humane and "human" characters of modern Greek drama, they are dominated by the bearer of the old values on the one hand, hooked on the past and clinging to the memories of another era, old bourgeois and on the other hand the layman, self-made New Greek, who, like a true climber, reduces everything- people and memories- in marketable items for exploitation and trivial disposal. The battle between them is inevitable but the "Road" will eventually pass through them, leveling that they themselves struggled to defend.
Contemporary work that portrays in the most theatrical way a world that grew up with the dream of the "rapture" only to end up lost, confused and "frustrated" in streets and squares.
The distribution of the work allows the coexistence of old and new actors of the Art Theater, giving the project a particularly symbolic weight while raising it to the historical Underground, in which Iakovos Kampanellis became a man and flourished, it provides a magical meeting of yesterday and today.

Κριτική στους “Immortals”

Death to “Immortals”: http://www.leontios.com/

Poor barba Kyriakos was saying it, but his sons didn't listen to him. From the ear of one came his words, from the ear of the other they came out: “Charlie, Blash, open a book of mythology because I see you living in duvars", he was calling them. “Leave us, oh father with mythology. Where will he need us?;” they answered him and continued to collect cards with baseball players. And it was not enough that his children had no appetite for reading, the US education system also had its black crap - not like ours which with photocopies and CDs is a model of education. Where to learn mythology; They learned the basics of it lamely and decided to study law when they grew up. And the years passed…
At one point a film producer had the brilliant idea to shoot an adventure that would take place in ancient Greece. "Which Greek screenwriters do we know who play with mythology?;” he started asking friends and acquaintances. “Who; The best ones: the Parlapanidis brothers. They know mythology from’ out and mixed. They'll take you out white-faced". He assigned them the writing of the "Immortals" and slept soundly. When the movie came out in theaters, it turns out that the brothers from New Jersey only knew mythology in passing. An event from here, one of these… And people were left cursing the moment he paid a ticket to see the currency and their school teacher regretted not leaving them for life in the fourth grade.

Well, you will say, the movie is so cool; As long as you don't imagine… At this point I must clarify the following: when I decided to see her, I knew what I was going to watch: a fairy-tale with plenty of blood, the testosterone of the protagonists soaking the screen cloth and the salt from the popcorn drying my lips. I did not expect to see a story based on Isiod's "Theogony".. But I didn't expect to see this mess either. And you are told by someone who "screams" at the "Greeks" who do not raise a fly in our mythology. Where to start and where to end… Hey guys, from the moment you decided to shoot a film set in Greece, why didn't you use real names that -goes to the wish- they would also give a sense of verisimilitude; Because the oracle in the movie is not one that actually existed; Because the Greek you hear in the movie is worse than what a drunk Scandinavian tourist speaks; You paid five hundred people to work on the effects, it was so hard to give 300 dollars to someone to teach the protagonists four sentences; In your secrets (otherwise I wanted to write it) that is; But, you will tell me, what happened that the film will be shown in Greece as well?; They down there have their debt to deal with, the film will be noticed;
