An idiot, well preserved Minoan tomb, dating from about 1300 p. X., came to the surface during the construction works of the new Gazi Krousona road, just before the historical settlement.

According to the findings of the archaeological service, it is a mass grave, which was accompanied by rich offerings. So far finds have come to light in fairly good condition, such as a large number of pottery painters, jewelry, copper objects, weapons, etc. It is also noted, that this discovery comes to confirm the long-formulated theory of the late archaeologist Ioannis Sakelarakis about the existence of the Platonic route of Minos, of a route that is in the plans of the municipal authority for tourism promotion and exploitation.

The mayor of Malevizio, Kostas Mamoulakis, has been closely following the progress of the archaeological service's work from the first moment and has even made available the archaeologist available to the municipality of Malevizio, so as to assist in the work of the archaeological service.

Alongside, expresses the political will of the municipal authority to maintain and restore the tomb, so that it can be visited and become another interesting point of visit, for Greek and foreign visitors to the area.

Mr. Mamoulakis expresses , in an announcement of the municipal authority's thanks to Ms. Ath. Kanda and the archaeologists of KG' E.K.P.A. for their immediate response, as well as to the Police Department of Heraklion and the TAE who provide the necessary security conditions by guarding the monument on a 24-hour basis.

Finally, it is noted that the above discovery, it is not expected to affect the construction project of the Gazi – Krousona road since it is outside the range of occupation of the road surface, so work will proceed as normal. Small detour though, may need to be done on the parallel road that leads to the historical monastery of Ag. Georgiou Kokkiniakou.
