According to data from Danmarks Nationalbank, Denmark received the first foreign currency loan on 1757, drawing money from Hamburg and Amsterdam, and from 1834 it never managed to repay its foreign debt. The last time Denmark came close to paying off foreign currency debt was 1894, when the debts are estimated to have amounted to approx 1% of GDP.
