Geoffrey Rush Australian of the Year

He was named Australian of the Year for 2012 distinguished actor Geoffrey Rush, on the occasion of Australia Day which is celebrated today, 26 January, anniversary of the arrival of the country's first white settlers.

For the natives, the anniversary is a "day of invasion and mourning". In recent years anyway, in the context of the Australia Day celebration the emphasis shifted from the arrival of the first whites.
