Car with… "eyes" detects pedestrians

The system, which will allow the car to see pedestrians and brake, it will consist of two cameras mounted on the windshield.

The two cameras will be able to detect the size of the object in front of the vehicle as well as the distance separating it from the car. Additional, a special radar with sensors will help to detect objects at a distance that will exceed them 180 meters.

Another advantage of the system is that it will allow – thanks to the radar it has – the possibility for the driver to carry out urgent but precise manoeuvres, while moving at high speed.

Specialists from the automotive field, point out that initially the installation cost of the stereoscopic camera system will be particularly high and it is estimated that it will come to market within 2013.

Protect your car or bike from theft


Advice from ELAS

  • Always have your car doors and trunk closed, locked when driving in the city.

  • Never leave the vehicle with the engine running and the key in the ignition, even if you step out of it for a few seconds. Always take the key with you.

  • Always lock the doors, close the windows and activate the alarm when you park the car somewhere.

  • Do not leave objects of any kind, money, wallet, mobile phones, sunglasses, bags and valuables in the car.

  • Remove the radio faceplate and anything valuable when you get out of your car.

  • Do not store spare vehicle keys in it, but in another, safer place.

  • If you park your car or two-wheeler in a parking space (parking), take its keys with you. Do not leave any identifying information in the vehicle.

  • Avoid parking your vehicle in deserted places.

  • In case you realize, that you are being followed or harassed by other vehicles, when driving alone, call it 100 with your mobile phone or go to the nearest Police Station.

Record number of license plate deposits in Chania

Close to 4.200 signs

The number of car license plate deposits reached a record number in Chania. The turnout from taxpayers has been huge in recent days in A’ and B'΄D.O.Y. Chania as the deadline for traffic fees has expired. Thousands rushed to pay the fees to receive the special badge.
Alongside, thousands more rushed to deposit their car plates. Overall, the number of registration plates filed in the A' and B' D.O.Y. Chania it 2011 reached them 4.200!
This number is a record, after surpassing all previous data. It is clear that the financial crisis has forced many to retire the cars they owned in order not to pay the increased road tax.
It is noted that by the end of December, approximately 2.000 signs, a number that nearly doubled in its final days 2011 and its first fortnight 2012.

The role of the battery is vital for the car and should be given special attention, in order to always be able to fulfill its role. You should know that at very low temperatures the battery is stressed quite a bit. Great care is needed when checking fluids, therefore you should regularly top up with either special or distilled water (as long as it is possible to top up - usually for old type batteries). The Acropolis rally is even stronger on the world stage

The organization of top races by Greeks seems to be fully trusted by the world automobile federation (FIA), after its decision to include in its Acropolis rally 2012 and the WRC Academy category. Our national match will be the 6th round of the championship for the 2012 and will also count towards the PWRC class championship. However, the choice of Greece to host the second round of the WRC Academy raises the interest even more, given that the specific institution at its establishment (2011) had 20 participations.

Already with the calendar finalized, the Greek organizing committee has decided that it will support any Greek competitor who participates in the Acropolis Rally with a car of the category (Ford Fiesta R2 prepared by M-Sport), with the details to be defined in the near future. It is recalled that the WRC Academy is the "nursery" of tomorrow's WRC drivers, since it gives the opportunity to young people under the age of 25 years to participate in the world rally championship at a cost lower than that of the other categories, but also with a prize money of the order of 500.000 euro for the champion. Note that the Acropolis rally 2012 will be held on 24-27 May, while in its 58th edition it will once again focus on the city of Loutraki.
