The 35th Book Festival in the Field of Mars begins on Friday

The Book Festival organized by the Athens Book Publishers Association is returning to its old haunt in the Areos Field (RESPECT) with the Region of Attica and with the cooperation of the Organization of Culture, of Sports and Youth of the Municipality of Athens.

This year's 35the Book Festival begins the Friday 4 May will last until 20 of the month and includes in its program tributes to Nikiforos Vrettakos, to Domna Samiou and Thodoros Angelopoulos, debates on the future of reading and copyright in the electronic age, for politics, literature and judgment, events about the Destruction of Smyrna and its place in the dominant neo-Greek ideology, book presentations, storytelling, musical theater performances as well as sporting demonstrations of fencing and basketball and even demonstrations of trained dogs.

First event of the Feast, on Friday 4 May, 6.00 pm-10.00 pm, will be the “sketch … bitten!». The event is held with the cooperation of the Greek Cartoonists Club, which throughout the Festival will present an exhibition of political cartoons 26 of Greek cartoonists on the subject of the crisis. On Friday, a ballot box will be set up in the cartoon exhibition area and visitors will "vote" with a sketch, a saying, a sentiment or a slogan. The ballot will be opened on 5 May on 8.00 p.m. and the cartoonists will award the best inspiration with a t-shirt.

With the slogan “You read me; Give me a gift! Give a book, save a library", the guests of the Feast are invited, same as last year, to offer their books to be sent to libraries in need of support. After the libraries of Leros and Lipsi, this year it is the Xanthi Municipal Library's turn, the libraries of the "Agia Sophia" and "Aglaia Kyriakou" Children's Hospitals, the library of the Hellenic Council for Refugees and the school library of the Verdikousa High School in Elassona.
