VW is preparing an attack on the lower end of SUVs with the Taigun, a model with a length shorter than 4 meters and engine 1,0 liter.

The new VW Taigun (anagram of "Tiguan") it was unveiled in prototype form in October at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil, revealing to us the brand's plans to enter the small SUV segment. Two years from now, the 2014, the Taigun is expected to go into production only for Latin American markets, so that a year later we will see it in Europe as well.

Visually, the production model will not differ drastically from the prototype Taigun of São Paulo, as our spies reveal to us. So, in the front part, as in the new Tiguan, the grille and lights will form a single horizontal bar. Just below that you'll find the squared-off bumper with aluminum apron and high-mounted fog lights. On the side, the wheel arches are highlighted, while the handle of the rear doors is hidden inside the rear pillar. The off road character of the car, highlight the side plastic protectors, but also the roof rails in the color of aluminum.

The new Taigun will base its presence on the same platform as that of the VW up!, certainly increasing its dimensions (B.C. the length will touch the 4,0 meters), but also its weight, however, this does not mean that the car will "weigh". Also according to what the original showed us, under its hood we will see the new 3-cylinder 1,000 hp turbo engine that VW has almost ready and which will also strengthen the future GT version of the up!. The power of this motor will be found in 110 horsepower and consumption combined with front-wheel drive only, will be reduced.
