Toyota FT-86

Toyota's new coupe in the European market will be called the GT 86, from the legendary Corolla GT (ή Levin) AE86 – was in production from the 1983 up to 1987- that inspired its creation.
The GT 86 it is the result of a joint cooperation program between Toyota and Subaru. The latter model, dubbed the BRZ was the first of the two to be revealed and will also make its Tokyo debut.
The two models, as well as the Scion FR-S which is intended for the US market, they share the same platform and most mechanical parts, including the Subaru sourced engine.
The history of the GT 86 started in October 2009 with the unveiling of the first FT-86 Concept in Tokyo followed by the FT-86 Concept II at the Geneva Motor Show last March. The last one was also the one that was very close to production.
The exterior styling of the GT 86 it's what we see in the movies “Fast & Furious”. Compared to the original FT-86 Concept II there are minimal changes and the car follows elegant and simple lines that suit European consumer standards.
The interior decoration of the sports coupe follows sporty lines and a beautiful design. The gear lever is short and sporty, the tachometer is placed in the center in front of the steering wheel and various other instruments are placed around it. The seats are bucket seats and the steering wheel is three-spoke. The Japanese have put various pieces of carbon fiber on the dashboard, leather makes its presence felt while the pedals are made of aluminum.
The GT 86 has a length 4.240 millimeters , height 1.285 millimeters and 2.570 mm wheelbase. Dimensions that make it the most compact four-seater sports car available on the market today, according to what Toyota people claim.
Under the hood, there is a flat four-cylinder (boxer) Subaru engine that has been upgraded with Toyota's D-4S direct injection technology. The engine performs 200 horses at 7.000 rpm. and maximum torque 205 Nm at 6.600 sal.
The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed automatic transmission is also available as an optional extra.. Drive is transferred to the rear wheels via a limited slip differential.
The 2 +2 sports coupe also has a very low center of gravity, just 475 millimeters. The suspension includes MacPherson struts at the front and double wishbones at the rear, while the basic version is equipped with 17-inch wheels.
