Good Iver, Yoko Ono and Flaming Lips join forces

The project – collaboration of the year

Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips has revealed that they are working on an LP, for the creation of which he will collaborate with Bon Iver and Yoko Ono.

Besides these, on the album that will be released in April, artists such as Nick Cave will appear, η I$ha, Lykke Li and Erykah Badu.

Coyne confirmed that he has already finished recording with Cave and the Plastic Ono Band for this record, while Justin Vernon of Bon Iver has accepted to be part of the project and is expected to participate with two tracks.

Speaking of the rest of the artists who will collaborate, the Flaming Lips singer stated:

"Everything happened within two days. You think of these partnerships in your head and immediately start making them a reality. Sometimes it's enough to just get in touch".

Coyne spoke highly of Ke$ha, whom he hopes to convince to do a "weird rap" on the record, but describing her as "very strange".

THEATER : Γιατί σκότωσα την καλύτερή μου φίλη στο 104 Κέντρο Λόγου και Τέχνης

Το 104 Κέντρο Λόγου και Τέχνης των εκδόσεων Καστανιώτη παρουσιάζει την παράσταση «Γιατί σκότωσα την καλύτερή μου φίλη»που βασίζεται στο ομώνυμο μυθιστόρημα της Αμάντας Μιχαλοπούλου.
Πρόκειται για την ιστορία της επεισοδιακής σχέσης δύο κοριτσιών, που συναντιούνται στα 9 τους χρόνια λίγο μετά την μεταπολίτευση.
Στα χρόνια που ακολουθούν, η Άννα κι η Μαρία μεγαλώνουν και διαμορφώνονται μέσα από σχέσεις, πρόσωπα, συμβάντα, πολιτικά ιδεώδη, κόσμους και θεωρίες
 
Η ασφυκτική τους σχέση διαπλέκεται με την έντονη πολιτική ζωή και διαγράφει ένα αλλόκοτο ταξίδι στο πρόσφατο παρελθόν της ελληνικής πραγματικότητας.
Πόσο θα καταφέρουν ν’ αντέξουν για χάρη του παρελθόντος και της νοσταλγίας;

The nominations for the Oscars are announced today

At 26 February the awards ceremony
The films that will claim a golden statuette on 26 February at the Kodak Theater are expected to be announced today, with stakes falling for 'The Artist' and 'Descendants' topping Golden Globes.

In fact, "The Artist" has not stopped collecting awards and nominations since then, at the British BAFTAs, the American Producers Guild and the London Critics Association.

George Clooney and Meryl Streep, also distinguished at the Golden Globes, are also considered "certain" for nominations.

Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" films are also expected to receive nominations, "War Horse" by Steven Spielberg, Tate Taylor's The Handmaids and Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris.

The awards will be presented on 26 February once again hosted by actor Billy Crystal.

Smyrna. The Destruction of a cosmopolitan city 1900-1922: Exhibition at the Benaki Museum

The Benaki Museum presents the exhibition "Smyrna. The Destruction of a cosmopolitan city 1900-1922 "which will last from 25 January to 26 February 2012.
Director and curator Maria Iliou and historical consultant Alexandros Kitroev, who had presented the 2007 at the Benaki Museum the exhibition The Journey, the Greek Dream in America, after 4 years of research, present their work on Izmir with unknown visual material from archives of America and Europe.
The special importance of the historical documentary and the exhibition is not limited to the unknown images from Smyrna but also to the new look that the two collaborators present in the historical events.. A look that distances itself from both an overly nationalistic narrative and newer attempts to conceal the tragic events of the catastrophe, distorting the truth.
Through this work, the cosmopolitan Smyrna par’ all that was destroyed, continues to exist.
It is still an idea that has to do with cosmopolitanism, the joy of life but also destruction.
Ninety years after the disaster, the documentary and the photo exhibition honor the lost world 1922, but also at the same time, the science of history.
The documentary and the photo exhibition of the same name are documented with rare photographic and cinematographic material collected from American and European archives..
For the first time, unknown images of Izmir are published from private collections such as that of Pierre De Gigord and from the archives of the Library of Congress, of Princeton and Harvard University, του Near East Relief, of the Imperial War Museum, of Pathe and other institutions in Greece and abroad.
The documentary of the same name will be screened at the Amphitheater (Koumbari 1) during the exhibition.

Etta James "left", the velvety voice of jazz

Η Etta James δεν είναι το ίδιο γνωστή όσο η Aretha Franklin, ή η Billie Holiday και η Nina Simone, τουλάχιστον στο ευρύ κοινό. Όσοι αγαπούν την τζαζ όμως, γνωρίζουν ότισ ήμερα έφυγε σε ηλικία 73 ετών ένας πραγματικός μουσικός θρύλος.  Το πιο γνωστό της τραγούδι και το μεγαλύτερο της σουξέ είναι το At Last , γνωστό στην Αμερική ως το «first dance song» καθώς είναι ίσως το πιο δημοφιλές κομμάτι για να χορέψουν οι νεόνυμφοι στον γάμο τους.

 Η τραγουδίστρια είχε ταλαιπωρηθεί εδώ και πολλά χρόνια από λευχαιμία, αλλά και άλλες ασθένειες.   Γνωστή με το ψευδώνυμο «Miss Peaches» έζησε μια πλούσια ζωή με πολλά σκαμπανεβάσματα. Μέσα στην εξηντάχρονη καριέρα της εθίστηκε στην ηρωίνη, άνοιξε συναυλίες για τους Rolling Stones, κέρδισε έξι βραβεία Grammy και είχε μπει στην λίστα με τους μουσικούς θρύλους του Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

 Ξεκίνησε το 1950 με ένα συγκρότημα που ίδρυσε η ίδια με όνομα Peaches έτσι την βρήκε ο τραγουδιστής Johnny Otis ο οποίος την οδήγησε σε συγκεκριμένο στυλ τραγουδιού που απογείωσε την καριέρα της.   Στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του ’70 η καριέρα της είχε χάσει την αίγλη της αλλά κατάφερε να την σηκώσει με κομμάτια όπως το “I’d Rather Go Blind,” που διασκέυασε και ο Rod Stewart.  Ήταν μαέστρος στο να συνδυάζει πολλά στυλ και να αλλάζει από το ένα στυλ στο άλλο: R&B, soul, jazz και blues, δεν υπήρχε τίποτα που να μην μπορεί να τραγουδήσει η James.
