He is temporarily off TV, something he considers justified. For’ this and he has channeled all his action into the theater. Petros Filippides talks to "Vima" about his career, for the review, he expresses his complaints and objections and declares himself an optimist.
How do you experience all that is happening?;
"It is very difficult. What bothers me is the gloom. Although I am optimistic, as the day goes on, the optimism fades away. But I'm not giving up. It has affected me quite a bit in my daily life as well. There is a serious financial problem. In the theater, for example, this year's success is in percentage 40% down on last year's success".
The public has higher demands;
"I think this is something that will be seen later. At the end we will be able to take stock. During a situation you cannot draw conclusions. But what upsets me is that the first question people ask theaters when they call is how much is the ticket and not what play is being played. But we have also done damage. Out of insecurity, stress and need we have lowered the ticket price. Can't be played with 9 euro and another me 22. The best would be a single ticket.
We must all agree that not everyone will be looking at their hump and rump. That's what we did in Greece all these years and we got here".
"Looking at my lot" doesn't just apply to the ticket though. And you actors avoid collusion.
"No, it's not that simple. An effort is being made. It's not about vanity, it's just not easy. Need can bring us together, something that is good for everyone, but on the other hand it is not easy to envision the same thing in important matters. It's not a matter of name on the sign".
You miss the TV;
"I won't tell you no because it might seem strange. I will tell you yes. Cat’ first television provides money. I didn't do television just for the money or, to be honest, I didn't do it for the money. I was paid well and I think not unfairly or unjustifiably. Not having something this year made me see other things. I love television".
And she loves you as she shows…
"Yes, viewers love me. Because if TV loved me now I would be’ her".
But there is room for everyone;
"No, You are right. And we should be out too, not just others. Since we don't want there to be forty serials then we have to accept that we won't be either. I am neither angry nor upset. I miss the TV, the shoot, the process, showing up. I miss the TV money but my life doesn't end here".
Mr. Filippidis, where you rank yourself in terms of artistic merit and contribution;
"The work I have done so far is quite important. I have a long way to go even important things that have not been done yet. I have a high opinion of myself. The artist must have a high opinion of himself.
Someone has to understand – because I appeal to intelligent people, I don't care about idiots – that the artist must have a great deal of self-confidence along with insecurity, but he must feel that he is the best. Otherwise he cannot be an artist. That doesn't mean he shouldn't try or that he's getting somewhere or that he doesn't have a long way to go. I don't think I've gotten anywhere".
You recognize your weaknesses;
"Yes, every time a show ends I'm not satisfied. I believe that if I did it again, I would do better".
However, you have spoken negatively about the critics.
You were particularly harsh in a recent interview…
“I wasn't hard on the critics, but with a particular critic. This is a friend of mine, whose opinion I value, but I can't handle it and I can't “from behind”. He talked about my summer show without having seen it! Don't tell me there aren't favorites and less favorites or that the reviewer doesn't have personal weaknesses. We have to be honest. Like me, I don't think I've gotten anywhere, critics must also be honest with themselves. Viewers can't be critics either. The opinion of the viewer should be kept to himself. From the moment it is made public, we enter another category, we are dealing with other things. Everyone can't come out and speak their mind without us knowing who they are!»
You are affected;
"No, at all. I know the difference between good and bad criticism. I don't like being told anything but good, flattery bothers me more. I'm glad to hear a negative opinion. But there is a way. I don't like insults and vulgarity".
You feel satisfied;
"I am happy, content. I told you, I am optimistic. Fri.’ that I owe a lot, I go to my rehearsal smiling".
