June is its sixth month Grigorianou (New) Calendar, with duration 30 days.
It was originally the fourth month of the ten-month Roman calendar. After its reformation, by Numas Pompilius, took sixth place in the twelve months, most, calendar. He maintains this position to this day.
At Attic calendar it was the twelfth month, were called Skirophorion and it lasted 29 days. Corresponds to the time interval from 24 May to 22 June.
He got his name from his wife For her Hera, which in Latin they were called Juno. She is considered the protector of the house and marriage, to whom this month is dedicated. According to another version, his name is due to Junius the White Brutus, the first Supreme who founded the Republic in Rome in the 5th century BC.
In June we have it summer solstice with the longest day of the year for the Northern Hemisphere, which practically means the start of summer.
The big religious festival of the month is Pentecost. According to the tradition of the Church on the fiftieth day after his Resurrection Jesus Christ the indwelling of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles took place. Theologically, this day is considered the birthday of the Church.

On the occasion of the exhibitions "Divine dialogues: Cy Twombly & Greek Antiquity" and "DESTE Award. An anniversary exhibition, 1999-2015» which hosts this season, the Museum of Cycladic Art organizes a Cycladic Late Night Party, on Thursday, 8 June. From 21:00 until 24:00, visitors will be able to tour both exhibitions with a discounted ticket , in a special evening of drinks and music by Prudence Tapes .

In the ninth consecutive year of its organization, the LEA Festival continues to be the leading cultural event for the dissemination of the Latin American secretariat in Greece, of Spain and Portugal, a cultural meeting around literature but also an ideal opportunity to spread the habit of reading .

 

From the 7 until 19 June in Athens and from 16 until 19 June in Lefkada , the public will be able to enjoy, including, painting and photography exhibitions, storytelling, literary and literary translation workshops, theatrically, musical and culinary workshops, music and poetry evenings, tributes to authors, book presentations, speeches, interviews and round tables with the invited authors and with personalities of the Greek cultural life.
