According to the Romans it was the second month of the year. It was named after the Latin verb aperio, which means to open, επειδή το μήνα αυτό ανοίγουν τα πάντα: the trees, the flowers, the weather. It is the quintessential spring month, γι’ αυτό στην αρχαία Ρώμη ήταν αφιερωμένος στη θεά Αφροδίτη.
