THEATER : "Angry Concrete Mixer" with Antonis Cafetzopoulos

Saturday 17 December in the Warehouse 1, at the Port.

After Gargalisti and Agesilagos, Dimitris Baslam presents his third Fairy Tale, the "Angry Concrete Mixer". The Angry Concrete Mixer is a special work for narration and live orchestra: o Antonis Cafetzopoulos, on stage, narrates -as in the cd- the story, flanked by the eight musicians and main protagonists, who, like a dance of an Aristophanic Comedy, embody the characters of the "Concrete Mixer" and conclude with the music and songs of the play, the show.

Andreas Karaulani's videos help and give a visual dimension to the show, thus leaving the viewer to enjoy the art of storytelling and the sounds of the live orchestra, which consists of the well-known and talented musicians of both previous shows.

Once again, Dimitris Baslam creates an excellent work, rich in ideas. A fairy tale that transforms into a different show that not only concerns children but also adults The Angry Concrete Mixer does not complain but suggests alternative solutions and actions against all kinds of difficult weather.

The Angry Concrete Mixer and her seven friends, they want to break the world and rebuild it. They want to tear down the betas. They want to open their horizons, to open hearts too! Ideas follow one another as do twists! What will they accomplish?; Things are serious…or maybe it isn't;

Spontaneity on stage, the good mood and extroversion of the characters, the smooth speech as well as the music and the original orchestration create a perfect spectacle.

The Angry Concrete Mixer starts from Thessaloniki for 6 evening shows and premieres on Saturday 17 December in the Warehouse 1, at the Port.

THEATER: "Revelation of John" at the Kakogiannis Foundation

At Foundation M. Kakogiannis is presented, for only two shows, a separate project, which occupies a specialposition in the global secretariat, her “Revelation of John“, in poetic performance in modern Greek and its musicNikos Papakostas herThursday 22 and on Friday 23 December, at 21.00
THE “Revelation of John“, a universal work that moves between prophecy and vision, anguish and transcendence, with his poetic performance and music Nikos Papakostas, but also the directorial editing and narration by Giorgos Karamichos, gets a new one, different form.
Without altering its content or acquiring arbitrary interpretations, it comes a step closer to the religious and non-Greek audience, but through music, and the global, highlighting all its uniqueness. All his special power, its multiple symbolisms, the divine majesty as revealed by the visions and speech of John.
THENikos Papakostashe sought to make an extremely difficult and sometimes twisted and difficult text more comprehensible to the reader and listener and this was the reason he chose in his translation and poetic rendering a simple, understandable and without extremes language.
THEGeorge Karamichosnotes:  “The Apocalypse of John, in the new measured rendering by Nikos Papakostas is an imaginative and at the same time accurate poetic view of this rare and archetypal work. Our show, following the music enriched with traditional and modern instruments and motifs, hopes to bring out the striking, dense and full battle of the forces of the original work. Darkness against Light, the Demons against the Angels, the human Fear towards the primordial Knowledge. Here they meet, both visual and interpretive, the elements of nature with the symbolic elements of Revelation. Music is our weapon, the image and the reason. The sound with its silence and the light with its shadow.”
The visual creations of Ioannis Vlazakis play an important role in the show, the lighting of Christina Thanasoulas, and Ilias Lakka's sound effects that shape a contemporary, impressive scenic environment, appropriate to the project.
Pre-recorded music pieces by Nikos Papakostas embrace and project the poetic discourse, and are harmoniously involved with his new compositions, which were written specifically for the project, which they perform live on stage, the musicians: Maria Reboutsika, First violin, Giorgos Konstantinidis 2nd violin, Filenia Spachi Cello, Nikos Pitloglou piano, Kostas Koutsikouris classical guitar.

Maria Joáo and Savina Giannatou: A wonderful musical partnership at Half Note

Two leading female voices of contemporary music or jazz in a creative meeting that spans a wide musical spectrum...
and pierces the … tags! Maria Joáo is a global artist with appearances in the biggest Concert Halls of the world. The so-called "Vocal Queen of Portugal" comes from a Portuguese-African heritage that made sure throughout her career to be with her senses open to every evolution of modern jazz.
Historical are her duets with the Japanese free jazz pianist Aki Takase in the 80's as well as her collaborations with J. Zawinul, Hermeto Pascoal, R. Towner and others while the collaboration with the leading pianist Mario Laginha is timeless, with which he made the huge hits. It impressed the Greek public, όσες φορές παρουσιάστηκε στη χώρα μας τον καιρό δε αυτό παρουσιάζει– τις «Περιπέτειες των Μελισσών» με τους εξαίρετους Joăo Farinha και André Nascimento.
Savina Giannatou – one of the leading voices of our country – already has a huge track in the song that spans the art, the renaissance, the medieval and reaches the traditional and the Mediterranean, always in excellent relation to the experimental element and the strongly intercultural flavor.

In her performances with Eugenia Karlavitis on the piano, she approaches well-known pieces in a completely different improvisational way. These two great voices of Joáo and Giannatou and their musicians, meet on the Half Note stage for the first time and combine their experiences in a promising musical feast with …heavenly voices!

Ballet of the Kyiv Opera - Nutcracker: Magical Christmas at the Badminton Theatre

The famous Ballet of the Kyiv Opera after the 13 sold out performances of Cinderella at the Athens Concert Hall in 2009, is coming to Athens again, at the Badminton Theater, to enchant young and old alike with the most beautiful Christmas tale, the NUTCRACKER!
Hoffman's fairy tale "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King", it was adapted 1816 by Alexander Dumas, who with great sensitivity turned the story of The Nutcracker into a tender children's tale that is read to this day.
The 1891, Marius Petipa, choreographer of the Imperial Ballet of St. Petersburg, decided to choreograph Alexandre Dumas' arrangement and commissioned Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky to compose the music. The solemn premiere of the ballet took place on 18 of December 1892. In Western Europe, presented for the first time in London, at 30 January of 1934 while in America it was presented for the first time only in 1944 in the city of San Francisco.
Since then the ballet has been choreographed by many choreographers, such as Georges Balanchine, Rudolf Nureyev, Michael Barysnikov et al. Although the Nutcracker has been presented from time to time with different stage approaches and choreographies, Tchaikovsky's genius music remains unchanged over time and is, generally speaking, one of the most wonderful and recognizable pieces of music ever written, bringing together most recordings of the classical repertoire.
The Nutcracker is presented every year in all the capitals of the world because it is the best gift for children on Christmas days.
THE TALE OF THE NUTCRACKER
FIRST ACT
Clara celebrates Christmas Eve with her parents like every year, her brother and her friends. Exchange gifts, they dance, they play and decorate the tree.
Clara's godfather, Drosselmeier, a strange magician and maker of magic games, is entertaining the children with various toys when suddenly a doll appears, a Nutcracker.
No kid wants him except Clara who starts dancing with him. Clara's brother, Fritz, fighting with her, takes the doll and throws it away. The party ends and all the kids go to sleep.
It's midnight. Clara can't sleep, gets up, she goes to the tree holding her beloved Nutcracker and falls asleep there. The Christmas tree grows and grows and everything loses its proportions. Clara is dreaming…
Suddenly the room transforms and an army of mice pops out of the walls scaring Clara. All the Nutcracker-led games come to life and start a mouse fight.
At the moment when everything seems to indicate that the Mouse King has defeated the Nutcracker, Clara throws her slipper at the King and saves the Nutcracker.
This act of Clara's, moves Drosselmeyer and transforms the Nutcracker into a Prince.
SECOND ACT
The Prince asks Clara to take her to his palace. So, begins a magical journey to the land of Fantasy. During the trip, they pass through various strange places, from the land of the Snow Queen, from the land of Sweets, they meet the Sugar Fairy and reach the land of Flowers. There, lovely flakes swirl to the rhythm of the waltz.
The snowflakes help Clara and the Prince get through a storm with their light until they reach the Prince's Magical Land where a beautiful palace full of toys awaits them.
In their honor, a festival of dances from all countries of the world begins, Arabia, India, China, Russia…
But the night passes quickly and it is dawn.
Clara wakes up under the tree, without her new friends, holding the Nutcracker doll in her arms and thinking of the wonderful memories of that magical Christmas.
Kyiv Opera Ballet
The ballet of the Kyiv National Opera in Ukraine was founded in 1860 and very quickly established itself internationally as one of the famous dance groups of the whole world. One of the first successes of the Ensemble was the premiere of Tchaikovsky's Oprichnik ballet presented in 1874, in the presence of the composer himself who congratulated them on their excellent performance.
In fact, Tchaikovsky insisted that all his operas and ballets be performed at the Ukrainian National Opera in Kiev, as he considered this theater to be similar and equal to that of Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
Today the Group has 24 complete ballets in his repertoire, which makes it the group with the richest repertoire in classical dance. With this rich heritage he has toured most countries of the world and has been enjoyed by more than 40 millions of viewers, who have been enchanted by the artistic and technical excellence of his dancers who are among the best in the world.
It should be noted that famous names of the dance art of the 20th century, such as Vaslav Nijinsky and Serge Lifar, were born in Kyiv. After the 1950 the Kyiv Opera and its ballet experienced a new heyday, as he was surrounded by young and talented artists. The 1964 the Kyiv Ballet participated in the International Festival of Classical Dance in Paris and several of its soloists received great honors. Great dance stars have collaborated with him: Serge Lifar, Maya Plisetskaya, Anna Pavlova, Marina Timofeeva, Irina Kolpakova et al. as did the great dancer Vladimir Malakhov.
