Bob Dylan's harsh response

With a long interview in the magazine "Rolling Stone" which is released on Friday, the legendary Bob Dylan talks about everyone and everything, but mainly for the accusations that he "steals" from other artists for his songs. "They can all melt in hell," he says in an aversion to his speech!

In 71 his years, the great Robert Allen Zimmerman – by world bob dylan – returns to the discography with his 35th album, the 'Tempest' which was released a few days ago, and with an interview that already, before it hits US newsstands, has sparked debate, mainly for the harsh words he uses against his critics.

In the interview with "Rolling Stone", dylan is asked by journalist sam jones about accusations that he has been "borrowed" without mentioning it lyrics by henry timrod, a 19th century poet, for songs on his six-year-old album Modern Times. He has also been accused that on the album "Love and Theft" the 2001 had used excerpts from "Confessions of a Yakuza", the dark novel by the Japanese author Yunishi Saga, without mentioning it again.

"Indeed in folk and jazz borrowing is a tradition that is rich and even enriching. It's true for anyone. Except me. There are other rules for me" Dylan emphasizes and continues in a harsher tone. “You're talking about Henry Timrod, have you ever heard of him; Who has read him lately?; And who brought him to the fore?; Who makes you read him; Go ask his descendants what they think of all this. And if you think it is so easy to use his verses and help you in your work, do it and let's see how far you get. Women complain about something like that too!».

Dylan, who started his career in music the 1959, he claims in his interview that he has been in the spotlight for a long time. "This is all part of a tradition, that goes back a long time. They are the same ones who once stuck the name of Judas on me. Judah, the most hated name in history! If you think your name is bad, try to find your way with such a name. And all this why; Because I had played the electric guitar; As if this is the same as betraying the Lord and handing Him over for crucifixion. All these diabolical gams…see, they can melt in hell!».

A man is in a hospital room injured. No one knows where he comes from or what has happened to him. A nurse gives him first aid. A TV in the room is showing a movie that no one is watching. The man loses consciousness and the nurse runs to call for help.

The man sinks and is trapped in strange worlds, inexplicable, chaotic. He gets lost in a delusional labyrinth of personal and collective memories, persons, creatures and voices that haunt him. He is found to have committed a crime, and as a bearer of a tragic destiny, seeks his punishment. Until his wanderings lead him to the land of the void. In that paradoxical space where nothing exists and everything must be defined from scratch. In the womb. In the place of innocence. In a landscape without time, guilt and return.

The team "The Helter Skelter Company" returns to the Michalis Kakogiannis Foundation [“Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark", Black Box, March – April 2011] with the performance "Venison" and draws material from Aeschylus' Eumenides and Dostoyevsky, in order to track -through worlds that float within each other- the fall of a person from civilization to barbarism, from crime to punishment, from man to beast.

The two composers have chosen these deeply humanistic works, where art expresses religious inner spirituality.

Two countries, two cultures will be represented in this concert in which distinguished world-renowned artists will perform.

"Axion Esti" is a monument of Greek art. Its importance as well as the form of the poetic text led to the consideration of a new musical form.

The work covers the entire history of the Greek nation. "This is a small world, the great"… from Genesis to the prophetic vision of the sufferings imposed on us.

It is divided into three main parts: "The Genesis", "The Passions", "Doxasticon", while in its internal structure there are also three elements – the narrative, the hymn and the chorus.

69the Venice Festival: Live or die; Here's the question

Not many years have passed since the death of 17 years in a coma Elwana Englaro had shocked Italian public opinion. In February 2009, Englaro who had been in a coma since the 1992, after a car accident, died while the Italian Senate was debating in an emergency session the passage of Silvio Berlusconi's bill on compulsory feeding of patients in hospitals.

The request by Englaro's parents, who had repeatedly expressed their wish that she not live should she fall into a coma, amounted to euthanasia, which is illegal in Italy. With the support of the Vatican, Berlusconi drafted the law on compulsory feeding.

One of the people who were shocked by the Englaro case was the teenager – then –  daughter of Marco Bellocchio. Talking to her, the Italian director came up with the idea of a film that would raise hot issues and dilemmas such as, in this case, euthanasia. The film called "Unseen Beauty" (Sleeping Beauty) and starring Tony Servillo and Isabelle Hyper, it was screened on Wednesday in competition in Mostra and received warm applause

Having the Elwana Englaro case constantly in the background, Bellocchio sets up short stories of death that take place in Rome. The most interesting of all is that of a senator (Tony Servillo) who is living the exact same drama as his wife who is dying of cancer and is determined to vote against the bill.

"There is no neutrality in Art, but the film is not a manifesto either," said the leftist Marco Bellocchio who had admired the lonely attitude of Englaro's father and was shocked by the way the media handled the event and also by the political dimension the issue had taken. "I want to believe that my film is serious and non-ideological and above all open to different points of view" he added.

Voyeuristic wandering

The sex, drugs and crime, permanent reflections of the "provocative" American director Harmony Korine, student of the equally challenging (but a better director) Larry Clark, dominate his latest creation as well, "Spring breakers" which is shown today Wednesday in a competition in Mostra.

We follow the adventures of four girls in Miami during Spring break, an American custom, according to which, shortly before the end of the academic term, students go on a two-week break.

Relaxation, sure, we mean nothing stands still. The girls go prepared for everything and Korain's lens with a voyeuristic mood captures every graphic detail emphasizing young girls' backsides and breasts. Such rabid cinematography of bare flesh can only be expected from the deeply deprived.

The interest in the film is its cast. Corinne cast actors closely associated with teen movies such as singer Selena Gomez and Ashley Benson as well as James Franco as a Miami criminal rapper who takes the four girls under his wing.

The tour ends in Athens with three performances at the Badminton Theatre, where the scenery will be adapted specifically for a closed space.

At 13, 14 and 15 September the Athenian audience will have the opportunity to enjoy a troupe of elite protagonists in a performance that brings to the fore the tragically relevant concept of sacrifice.

Euripides' Iphigeneia in Aulidis is one of the leading texts of the ancient Greek treatise, it is a deeply political text, an ironic and at the same time tragic comment on the subject of political expediency. Iphigenia is a symbol of every sacrifice, it is the atoning victim of the political expediency of each era. Iphigenia doesn't just sacrifice her life, but mainly, he sacrifices, her innocence as she is summoned almost instantly, to realize the mercilessness of this world.

The show...

"The performance attempts a contemporary stage reading of the text, in a poetic visual environment, with the modern musical arrangement of K. Beta. A shot. Darkness. A woman dead. Somewhere near a beach. A set of female death witnesses, are interrogated. Suicide or murder. Dance takes on a face, every woman expresses herself differently. Chorals become the point of meeting and confrontation with history. The heroes are each looking for their own truth, each expressing a different world, which stubbornly refuses to coexist with the self-evident…

The concept of sacrifice takes on multiple dimensions. It is akin to murder…”

The show is being translated by K. X. FRAGRANCE, directing – text editing THEME MOUMOULIDI, scenery by GIORGOS PATS, PANAGIOTA KOKKOROU costumes, music by KONSTANTINOU VITA, lighting by NICOS SOTIROPOULOS.

The story…

THE “Iphigenia in Avlidis”, is the penultimate work of Euripides. It fulfills the divine will of Artemis that Iphigenia be sacrificed, daughter of the king of Mycenae, Agamemnon, in order for fair winds to blow and the fleet of the Greeks to set sail for Troy.

The war is happening this time because Paris stole Menelaus' wife Helen, thus insulting Greece. The Greek fleet waits in Avlis for the winds to blow...

Agamemnon's initial decision to accept the oracle, in a state of confusion and panic and his false announcement of Iphigenia's marriage to Achilles in order to drive Iphigenia to the Court, it is soon recalled by him. However in the end, Agamemnon, despite the pleas of Clytemnestra and Iphigenia, decides the sacrifice. The Iphigenia, she is called in a moment to realize the irreversible change in her life. Weak and disgusted in the face of the army's violence, defenseless, and innocent,  decides, with an ironic speech that borders on sarcasm, to sacrifice himself voluntarily.

The sacrifice is decided! The campaign will begin… The story continues…

The question remains: Sacrifice or murder;
