Maria Joáo and Savina Giannatou: A wonderful musical partnership at Half Note

 Two leading female voices of contemporary music or jazz in a creative meeting that spans a wide musical spectrum...
and pierces the … tags! Maria Joáo is a global artist with appearances in the biggest Concert Halls of the world. The so-called "Vocal Queen of Portugal" comes from a Portuguese-African heritage that made sure throughout her career to be with her senses open to every evolution of modern jazz.
Historical are her duets with the Japanese free jazz pianist Aki Takase in the 80's as well as her collaborations with J. Zawinul, Hermeto Pascoal, R. Towner and others while the collaboration with the leading pianist Mario Laginha is timeless, with which he made the huge hits. It impressed the Greek public, όσες φορές παρουσιάστηκε στη χώρα μας τον καιρό δε αυτό παρουσιάζει– τις «Περιπέτειες των Μελισσών» με τους εξαίρετους Joăo Farinha και André Nascimento.
Savina Giannatou – one of the leading voices of our country – already has a huge track in the song that spans the art, the renaissance, the medieval and reaches the traditional and the Mediterranean, always in excellent relation to the experimental element and the strongly intercultural flavor.
With over 20 disks (concealment of the long-term cooperation with ECM) to her credit to date and tours around the world, Savina is a constantly renewed form of contemporary music. In her performances with Eugenia Karlavitis on the piano, she approaches well-known pieces in a completely different improvisational way. These two great voices of Joáo and Giannatou and their musicians, meet on the Half Note stage for the first time and combine their experiences in a promising musical feast with …heavenly voices!

Seminar for professional dancers from DV8

Tomorrow at the House of Letters and Arts
Hannes Langolf and Ermira Goro of the dance group DV8 Physical Theater deliver a one-day workshop for professional dancers. The participants will deal with some sections from the current work of DV8 "Can we talk about this?” and they will take an active part in a creative process. More specifically, recorded interviews, which form the basis of the group's work, will be used to investigate the composition of movement and speech.

DV8 Physical Theater dance group is based in London. It was established 1986 by a group of independent artists mainly of contemporary dance, while the soul of the team is Lloyd Newson. The team is known, including, and for incorporating disabled dancers into her classes, as for example in the film The Cost of Living. Until today, the team has signed 16 dance performances, all of which have also toured outside Britain, as well as 4 award-winning TV movies.

TEDxAthens with Main Topic the "art of subversion"

Innovative ideas were presented as part of the event
Another TEDxAthens event aimed at highlighting important ideas has come to a successful conclusion. This year's TEDxAthens event, held on Saturday 3 December at the cultural center "Hellenic World", main theme was "The Art of Subversion".
Prominent personalities from the art world, of education and universities, of entrepreneurship and sports shared with the Athenian public their experiences and ideas with reference point the "Art of Upheaval".
Disruptive can be considered any element that has the potential to redefine the way a system or situation works, changing it forever. From Wikipedia and Twitter to molecular cuisine and tsunamis, the world is full of upheavals that redefine themselves on a daily basis, some less and some more, the way we live.
Along with the 23 speeches made as part of the event, TÉDxAthens organized a series of activities and workshops covering a range of topics from gastronomy to technology, showing how subversiveness, imagination and pioneering ideas can be applied in almost any field.
Yet, the tasks of the TEDxAthens Challenge competition were also completed, of a new action launched this year by TÉDxAthens, with the aim of highlighting and supporting worthy initiatives from the field of education and learning. On the scene of the event, the three dominant ideas were presented.
After a public vote, the winner was the action "Urban Dig Project - excavation of ghosts of culture in the modern city", while in second and third place were the actions "Athens Plaython" and "ACSTAC".
Dimitris Kalavros, curator of TÉDxAthens, stated about it: "We are very happy that our effort to organize such an important event in our city, was crowned a success for the third year in a row. We are a team 38 volunteers who for a year have tried for the best possible result. Apart from the event itself, we experienced the value of voluntary cooperation and the importance of organizing actions that can contribute to the current conditions of the country".
On his part, Akis Tsoukalides, also curator TÉDxAthens, reported: "In today's era, the need to find new paths that will lead us to creative changes is more intense than ever. From the economy and business, up to society, and our little daily habits, there is a belief that creative and at the same time disruptive ideas and initiatives can give new life and transform our world. That's why, we are filled with joy and optimism at the great response and participation of the public in our initiative"

Harrison Ford : He will play Indiana Jones for the fifth time

In one year he turns seventy, but this does not seem to deter Harrison Ford, who will once again play the hero-archaeologist Indiana Jones.
Filming will begin in a year and Harrison Ford is excited: “I have a strong ambition to do so while I am still alive. I am available. I'm not cheap, but I'm available".

Director Steven Spielberg has confirmed that George Lucas is editing the story for the next film. The last Indiana Jones movie was the 2008, but it didn't get particularly good reviews. As Spielberg mentioned, he was very happy with his movie but he understands people who didn't like it especially its plot.

THEATER : "Fodariko" with a third wreath in Thessaloniki

From 4 January at Megaro

"The third wreath" by Stamatis Fasoulis and Thanasis Niarchou, based on the book by Kostas Tachtsis, presented by 4 January 2012 at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall.
"The Third Wreath", one of the most important modern Greek novels, it was issued 1962. Autobiographical work, with persons from the life and memories of the author, outlines in a way unprecedented for its time a piece of modern Greek history through the eyes of two women, of Nina and Hekabe.
Two women familiar, full of strength and weaknesses, they unfold in front of the viewers the thread of their lives: weddings, infidelities, divorces, deaths, financial failures, family dramas.
The personal, their little story is tied to the big story, with the history of modern Greece, the main events of the first half of the last century, sometimes decisive and sometimes as a background in an emotional landscape. Nina's third wreath, her last marriage to her husband and son of Hekabe, is where the story begins and ends. A circle that closes all the passion of the two heroines for life, the struggle for survival, the cruelty, the tenderness, but also their humor and self-mockery, which is transferred to the theater stage.
They are playing: Nena Mendi, Philaretis Komnenos, Yannis Stankoglou, Tania Trypi and twenty other actors.

In these days when our rights are being taken away from us, they shoot our minds ,they terrorize us into submission , inept and fatal ,we chose to present you three unworshipped creators and through their words to preserve our dignity as people and as artists.
The values ​​of our culture are a guarantee for a better tomorrow and with them we can build the Greece we dream of .
In the difficult times for our people and the all-out attack that is carried out in all areas of our lives with the removal of our social and economic conquests of years, the discredit of Culture could not be missing, which has been relegated from a necessary social and popular good to a product to be sold for profit, accessible to the few. The loneliness, the hypocritical petty-bourgeois conception of social progress, the anguish of the man-creator in the face of death. Issues as topical today as yesterday.
