Funk master Milo Z at Half Note Jazz Club

Half Note Jazz Club presents the favorite of the Greek audience Milo Z for five jazz-funk nights from Thursday 26th to Sunday 30 January 2012.
Metro of funk not only in New York but also in Athens – since Milo Z and his explosive group, through regular visits to the Half Note Jazz Club, has built a situation that has its own cult current and fanatical audience. Jazz funk, hip hop, and groovy dance and soul rhythms dominate the group's musical presence and the jazz thing and street beat are in all their glory.
Milo Z creates music for young people – and always young – combining good old Sly soul and funk & The Family Stone, of War, of Kool & The Gang and Parliament-Funkadelic with pure avant-rock influences and connections, within a completely modern context that fully responds to the dance call of the times, influenced by the sounds of Prince and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Milo Z: voice
Joe Copeland: bass
Emilio Tostado: guitar
David Melton: keys
Sylvester Onyejiaka: saxophone
Todd Gaynor: άλτο σαξόφωνο

Smyrna. The Destruction of a cosmopolitan city 1900-1922: Exhibition at the Benaki Museum

The Benaki Museum presents the exhibition "Smyrna. The Destruction of a cosmopolitan city 1900-1922 "which will last from 25 January to 26 February 2012.
Director and curator Maria Iliou and historical consultant Alexandros Kitroev, who had presented the 2007 at the Benaki Museum the exhibition The Journey, the Greek Dream in America, after 4 years of research, present their work on Izmir with unknown visual material from archives of America and Europe.
The special importance of the historical documentary and the exhibition is not limited to the unknown images from Smyrna but also to the new look that the two collaborators present in the historical events.. A look that distances itself from both an overly nationalistic narrative and newer attempts to conceal the tragic events of the catastrophe, distorting the truth.
Through this work, the cosmopolitan Smyrna par’ all that was destroyed, continues to exist.
It is still an idea that has to do with cosmopolitanism, the joy of life but also destruction.
Ninety years after the disaster, the documentary and the photo exhibition honor the lost world 1922, but also at the same time, the science of history.
The documentary and the photo exhibition of the same name are documented with rare photographic and cinematographic material collected from American and European archives..
For the first time, unknown images of Izmir are published from private collections such as that of Pierre De Gigord and from the archives of the Library of Congress, of Princeton and Harvard University, του Near East Relief, of the Imperial War Museum, of Pathe and other institutions in Greece and abroad.
The documentary of the same name will be screened at the Amphitheater (Koumbari 1) during the exhibition.

Rock the Ballet by Rasta Thomas with the Bad Boys of Dance in Athens and Thessaloniki

The "bad guys» hisdancethey return in wild moods toAthenafor three spectacular performances on27, 28 & 29 January 2012 in the Badminton theaterand for two appearances atThessalonica, in theOpera Houseat31/01 and 1/02 2012.
A modern one, full of energy and sensual dance performance with beat music that passes like a storm wherever it finds itself (America, Europe and Australia) and leaves audiences and critics raving and charting hymns!
The same thing happened in Athens last year, in November 2010, when the -always generous with authentic vanguard- Greek audience filled Badminton for four nights (10-14/11) and welcomed for the first time the "ballet of the 21st century".
To “Rock the Ballet” it is a creation ofRasta Thomas, classical ballet soloist, who decided to throw away the "tight" leggings, to forget Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev for a while, re-examine the legacy of Rudolf Nureyev with a fresh eye and unleash his unparalleled talent dancing to the rock beats of Lenny Kravitz, of U2, of Journey, of Queen and many, many others! With Adrienne Canterna, husband and companion, to sign most of the choreography and the Bad Boys of Dance a group of excellent male dancers (and a dancer) to contribute to the scenes, Rasta Thomas as a worthy leader, present a "work", in which the traditional techniques of classical ballet coexist and "mix" with the wild, intense movements of modern dance, the difficult and dangerous stunts of gymnastics, but also the rhythmic figures of hip hop or the atmospheric ones of a jazz interlude. Giving like this, a kick in the knees of the strict rules that raised him. And they created him!
From the 2008 until today, Rock the Ballet has performed more than 600 sold out shows all over the world, among them those of Greece,  rising above 300.000 spectators!!!
