Τι είναι το άρθρο 50; Στο άρθρο 50 της Συνθήκης για την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση ορίζεται η διαδικασία για την αποχώρηση κράτους μέλους από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση, εφόσον το επιθυμεί. Θεσπίστηκε για πρώτη φορά με τη Συνθήκη της Λισαβόνας το 2007.

Πώς ενεργοποιεί ένα κράτος μέλος το άρθρο 50; Το κράτος μέλος οφείλει να γνωστοποιήσει στο Ευρωπαϊκό Συμβούλιο την πρόθεσή του να αποχωρήσει. Δεν προβλέπονται συγκεκριμένες απαιτήσεις όσον αφορά τη μορφή γνωστοποίησης.

Τι συμβαίνει μετά την ενεργοποίηση του άρθρου 50; Η διαπραγμάτευση της συμφωνίας αποχώρησης πρέπει να γίνει σύμφωνα με το άρθρο 218 παράγραφος 3 της Συνθήκης για τη λειτουργία της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης.
