Jacques Audiard: In the crisis, instinct prevails

The French director of the film "Body to Body", of a love story in a time of crisis, it talks about its contradictions and the golden ratio between quality and commercialism

"Don't call me an artist!» shouts Jacques Audiard. "It's a very difficult word and I can't define it. For’ that's why I prefer the term “creative”, word more tangible and specific. The creator constructs something, what exactly does the artist do?;». Writer Craig Ferguson and I sit in a room at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes a few days after the world premiere of Audiard's latest film Body to Body last May. There the wonderful Marion Cotillard plays a whale trainer who loses her legs after an accident but finds the will to live again after meeting a lonely sidewalk boxer (Matias Senerts), who circulates on the French Riviera with his minor son.
Although the term "artist" does not like Odyar, "Body to Body" is an artistic film. I point out to him that at the press conference the day before he had referred to cinema using the phrase "art form". "You're right," he replies immediately. "What should I do?, I am full of contradictions! But when I hear them call me a poet… what can i say; I'm not a poet. Rimbaud and Verlaine were poets, me not".
For "Body to Body" Odyar and Ferguson used many scattered ideas from the latter's collection of short stories. "I was interested in telling a love story in a crisis situation," says Jacques Audiard, whose previous film, "The Prophet", liked it a lot in Greece. "Crisis at all levels, not only the economic one. People who eat from the garbage, people who have lost their legs, children growing up without a family. In the novel “They kill the horses when they get old” of Horace McCoy, which refers to the period of the great crisis of '29, people had to dance themselves to the death in order to survive. Today they will have to fight until the end on the road. But they still kill the horses when they get old, it is not so; In a crisis man's only weapon is his physical strength. In a crisis instinct again prevails".
For Jacques Audiard cinema is a very democratic art but it still remains an industry. A film critic he holds in high esteem once told him that there are two doors you can walk through to enter the world of cinema: one big and pop and one small, better quality. "The ideal is to enter a little bit of both. You have to think about the audience when you write, not just yourself.  For me, fer’ they said, when you decide to end a tragic movie with a tragedy, you suffer from a lack of imagination".

Garelli's "racing history" is for sale

In the "hammer" rare GP motorcycles, among them the Lazzarini champions, Nuvolari

Almost two dozen motorcycles Garelli Grand Prix they all come together at an auction in Paris. They are the property of one and only collector who until now were kept in a private… chapel, apparently as "sacred" objects that they are!

Among them there are some pre-war models, but also several from the 80s, when Garelli was at the zenith of her racing success. In other words, Garelli's racing history is for sale.

One of the most important collector's items, it's a Garelli 50 of cubic 1963 which held the world speed record and is estimated by 48 as 60.000 euro. Also the racing 50 of Eugenio Lazzarini (1983) with which Garelli took the Manufacturer's Title that year (estimated by 12-18.000 euro).

End, a replica of the GP125 two-stroke twin-cylinder that in the 80s won six Riders' Titles and 4 Manufacturers (estimated by 6 – 10.000 euro).

Part of the same collection are two non-Garelli racing bikes: Fred Merkel's Honda RC30 which the American SBK World Champion rode this season 1989-90 (estimated at 17.000 – 30.000 euro) and the Yamaha TZ250W ridden by French rider Jean-François Baldé in his final year in Grand Prix racing, the 1989 (estimated at 3.000 – 3.500 euro).

The auction is being conducted by Bonhams at the Grand Palais in Paris, at 6 February 2013.

The new Peugeot 301

Armed with its superior spaciousness and affordable price, the Peugeot 301 winks at family heads who are looking for substance and maturity in their travels with a reasonable budget...

In difficult economic times, the advent of cars like the new Peugeot 301 it can only be described as manna from heaven for those families looking for a spacious sedan with compact dimensions and low cost of ownership and use.

Based on proven mechanical parts and manufactured at the French brand's factory in Figo, Spain, Peugeot 301 has a length 4,442 meters and certainly does not go unnoticed. On the contrary, it looks elegant, especially in the front, which features aesthetic cues from the larger Peugeot 508. At the rear, the third volume looks in harmony with the rest of the bodywork, while the lighting fixtures refer to his 208.

Its great advantage 301 it is spaciousness, an area that is literally not played in the small and medium class. Making the most of their long wheelbase 2.650 mm., the car can accommodate comfortably 4 tall passengers. It has no rival in the trunk either, since it has a premium price 506 liters and is comparable to that of medium models. Additional, the rear seat backs can be folded and offer even more space 1.038 l.

Inside it 301, Peugeot follows austere and simple lines with the solidity of the construction winning the impressions of essence.  In the quality part, has chosen hard plastics, but which show that they are able to withstand time and hardships. The finish is at a good level. The simple design also ensures good ergonomics, although the placement of the switches for the power windows, on the base of the center console and on either side of the gear selector, it's not that convenient.

Engine 1,6 HDi, which moves it 301, it pays off 92 horsepower, but has accentuated torque characteristics with 230 Nm at 1.750 rpm. In practice it is somewhat noisy especially at high revs, but no one needs to work him there, since it shows an impressive pull in the low and medium ranges. Of course, the big advantage of this particular engine is the fuel economy, after the 4,3 lt./100 km. (112 gr. CO2/km) it's a class-leading price.

On the road, the car retains all the good elements of the Peugeot recipe, which is characterized by comfort and pleasant dynamic characteristics. The driving behavior and feel inspire the driver even to drive... beyond the family pace, giving it very good feel through the steering wheel. The suspension is based on MacPherson struts at the front and a semi-rigid axle at the rear contributing to the civilized behavior and the high margins of traction of the driven wheels.

Our big circus, at the Royal Theatre

The Royal Theater is preparing to host the show "Our Big Circus" presented by the State Theater of Northern Greece from Friday 14 December 2012.

 "Our Big Circus", presented by the State Theater of Northern Greece, in co-production with the Acropolis Theatre, continues its triumphant march. The emblematic work of Iakovos Campanellis returns in December to Thessaloniki where it was presented for only two performances, at the request of many viewers.

The show that was described as the "social phenomenon" of the summer, after 40 stops on a tour where they watched it 100.000 spectators, but also a series of highly successful performances in Athens at the Acropolis Theatre, plays at the Royal Theater from Friday 14 December 2012.

Nikos Aliagas – Tina Grigoriou: Their daughter was born!

Their first child, a little girl, welcomed by Nikos Aliagas and Tina Grigoriou.

The little girl was born, according to the French press, on Thursday afternoon.

Nikos Aliagas and Tina Grigoriou have been together for more than two years, however the two had kept their relationship out of the limelight. She is of Greek-British origin and works as a psychologist. In previous years he lived in London but has now moved to Paris.
