WRC: Prodrive denies!

The last few days, and on the occasion of publications of the German press, a strong rumor circulated, which wanted BMW Motorsport, to terminate its cooperation with Prodrive, after problems arose regarding the team's budget for the participation of the factory Mini JWC WRCs. In fact, the specific rumors that said the information came from high-ranking figures in the German company, they were talking about announcements tomorrow, Friday 3 February! End, in this particular article, there is talk of direct involvement of BMW, which took over the WRC program in its entirety!
Nevertheless, the head of Prodrive, Richard Taylor, denied these rumours, even expressing his surprise! "This is something I am hearing for the first time. No such issue arises in any case. Right now as we speak, the team is on its way to Sweden, so that we can also carry out the predetermined development tests before the race. Mini remains faithful to its WRC program, but also to the private groups it supports. What we want is to see the JCW WRCs on the special courses, and that's what will happen next week in Sweden".

Can Taylor deny these rumours, but we, for our part, will add that where there is smoke, there is also fire. At BMW there is concern, from the moment that the German VW will be directly involved in the institution and even a huge budget at its disposal. This threat and the direct comparison on special courses is what worries the people at BMW. The German company had guaranteed to finance the car's bond, engine development, with the budget being the responsibility of Prodrive. Nevertheless, because finding strong sponsors proved impossible for David Richards' team, the information states that the British company asked BMW for greater financial support, as a result of which the relations between the two sides cooled down and a series of rumors started that wanted the German company to take over the project entirely. In each case, within the next few hours or days, we will be able to find out if this particular rumor has some truth or not...

Ford's 1,000th EcoBoost in the new Focus as well

The new 3-cylinder Ecoboost engine of the 1.000 κ.εκ. of Ford makes its debut under the hood of the company's new small and medium model.
Low-displacement turbocharged engines have now entered our modern automotive everyday life for good. No compromises in performance, thanks to the help of their sophisticated turbochargers, but also with very significant advantages in terms of emissions and fuel economy, have already begun to... spread at breakneck speed, largely replacing many of their elders, in displacement, atmospheric engines. Faithfully following the path blazed by Ford's new engine family, named EcoBoost, the company is now officially launching the third version of this series, after the debut of the respective sets at 1,6 and 2,0 l, which currently yield from 150 until 240 horsepower. The reason, for the new 3-cylinder 1,000, who, initially, it is placed under the hood of the new Focus and soon after in the C-Max, Grand C-Max but also in the upcoming B-Max, which will probably be revealed for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show next March.

According to Ford's official announcements, said set will be available in two variants, the sales of which start already from 22 February in the market of M. Britain, that they will perform 100 and 125 horsepower. In other words, those that are currently produced by the known versions of their atmospheric engine 1,6 liters of Ford. In the smaller of its two versions, emissions amount to just 109 grams per kilometer, while the eldest just 5 extra grams. Their average consumption respectively ranges from just 4,8 and 5,0 liters for each 100 km. With impressively compact dimensions (SS.: according to Ford, the engine cylinder head is so small in size, so that it fits in a roll of A4 size paper!), the torque of the larger of its two variants amounts to 170 Nm, which are consistently assigned by the 1.400 up to 4.500 s.a.l., while in overboost mode, to the above price are added momentarily 30 additional Nm.
Commenting on the parchments of this new 3-cylinder engine, the company's executives point out that "the days when the number of cylinders dictated the performance of the engines are gone forever. This high-performance and technologically advanced engine is not only enjoyable to drive, but at the same time offers significant benefits in fuel economy and extremely low CO2 emissions, that lead to real cost reduction for our customers".

Tips for driving in snow

The ongoing wave of bad weather will probably catch us by surprise, if he finds us complacent. Snow will cover the country's mountains again, but also many of the towns and villages, making life difficult for drivers and… cars. And yet, snows can be treated, it is enough to pay attention to some things, such as:
1. Battery in excellent condition.
2. Antifreeze in engine coolant and windshield washer reservoir.
3. Fresh wiper blades.
4. Special spray on the locks to prevent them from freezing.
5. Reading the heating/ventilation instructions, which are detailed in each car's owner's manual.
6. Tires in good condition, with fresh tread that has wide and deep grooves. Note that narrow tires with a high profile have a significant advantage over wide and low profile tires.
7. Tire pressures must follow the instructions in the owner's manual with a tolerance of up to 2 pounds upwards.
In the luggage compartment we store a set of chains, a pair of gloves and a plastic spatula (for cleaning the windows). Here to point out that chains are just emergency accessories, are placed on the drive wheels (in case of permanent four-wheel drive, to the front ones), in order to help us overcome a very difficult part of the road and then remove them. Cars with chains must not be driven with more than 30-40 km / h, while the instructions state that, when chains are worn, the driver must disengage the Electronic Stability System (ESP) with the corresponding switch.
Anyway, in any case we must make absolutely progressive manipulations, because any spinning or locking of wheels means skidding, while the abrupt weight shift ΔEN is controlled. End, when we park, we don't pull the handbrake and it's a good idea to lift the wipers from the windshield. Have a good winter!

WRC: Latvala leaves Monte behind

The year for Jari Matti Latvala did not start in the best possible way, since the Finn in his "first" as Ford's first driver left the race too early, failing to score points from the opening race of the event in Monte Carlo. You see, the Monte Carlo Rally organizing committee chose not to use superally in the race, with the result that anyone who gave up did not have the right to restart the race. Something to note that didn't happen at Rally Sweden.
Latvala was forced to quit after an exit, which came from his own driving error. Nevertheless, he is already turning his attention to the sequel, since there is no time to think about what happened a few days ago. "Obviously it wasn't the start I wanted for the new year. Fortunately, we have a series of tests in the next few days, the week before Rally Sweden. Before that I will stay at home and try to forget for a while the races and everything that happened in Monte. After that I will prepare and only think about Sweden. With the tests before the race I will get back the good feeling I have with the car and move forward. I will be better when I drive in snow and generally in conditions more familiar to me".
Alongside, on Latvala's side is also the head of Ford WRT, Malcolm Wilson, who is sure that the Finn will have no problem and will very quickly find his rhythm and with it his confidence. "If the institution was transferred to a fight with difficult, changing conditions such as Monte Carlo, then we would expect him to be more careful. Nevertheless, as long as the sequel is given in sweden it won't be a problem. I'm sure Jari Matti will be just as fast from the start of the race. also, before the race we also have the tests, and he will essentially cross the starting ramp with two full days of snow testing behind him. Regarding the exit to Monte, it wasn't that big of a disaster, while with the footage but also the information from the car, can see exactly what happened. It's always better when you can explain the reasons for the exit. Generally, I'm not worried about the sequel".

In September the premiere for the new VW Golf!

According to all indications, at the Paris International Motor Show next September, VW is expected to officially present the seventh consecutive generation of the popular Golf.

Undoubtedly, the Golf is a model that marked the modern history of the automotive industry, recording excellent sales figures all over Europe. The 2012 is another very important milestone in its many years of history (SS.: we remind you that the first generation model was presented in 1974), as its seventh consecutive generation will be officially presented at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. But what's different?, in relation to the sixth, it is expected to bring with it the new Golf;

By design, despite the fact that the German small-medium hatch is expected to retain close ties to the past, its overall silhouette is expected to be more sporty and dynamic in character, thanks to its specific characteristics, which have already been curated by VW stylists led by Walter de Silva, as is the stronger inclination of the windshield, the narrowest mask, the smaller-sized LED technology lighting bodies at the front and the more curved configuration of the roof. From now on, inside the Mk7 VW Golf the changes are expected to be equally extensive, with the cabin having a driver-centric approach, the dashboard new aesthetics, but even better, in quality and touch, materials. Structurally, the new VW Golf will "step", as well as the new Audi A3 sibling, which will make its official debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show, on the new flexible and… versatile in terms of the dimensions of the platform of the German group (see MQB, i.e. Modularer Querbaukasten in German and Modular Transverse Matrix in English). It is worth taking the opportunity to note that it is expected to "build" more than 3 million cars within the VW group and by extension many of the upcoming new Audi models (new A3 and TT), Skoda (new Octavia) and Seat (new Leon).

In the field of mechanical parts, VW executives are expected to follow the beaten track by placing under the hood of the car the well-known petrol and diesel engines of the TSI and TDI families, which will have a capacity of 1,2 until 2,0 liters and power up to 300 horsepower. It is also very likely that we will see 3-cylinder units under the hood of the new Golf (with turbo of course), while certainly in the near future it is expected, beyond the GTi version, and a plug-in hybrid. The familiar DSG gearboxes, either with 6 either with 7 relationships, they are considered out-of-the-box options anymore, combined with the well-known manual 6-speed gearbox of the group.

According to the information so far, the new Skoda Octavia is expected to be presented for the first time in the French capital, while in the current year - for now though, unknown when- the new Seat Leon is also expected.
