VOLVO is closer to the environment

The Swedes managed to take first place among European car manufacturers in terms of reducing carbon dioxide emissions for 2010. This is according to the sixth annual survey carried out by the European Federation for Transport and the Environment (European Federation for Transport and Environment, T&E).

On average, Europe's eight largest car manufacturers reduced their CO2 emissions 2010 in percentage 2 – to 6 %. Volvo did not exceed this average by much, achieving a reduction of CO2 by 9 %!

Analysis by the European Federation for Transport and the Environment shows that European car manufacturers have achieved a satisfactory reduction in CO2 emissions and average fuel consumption in new cars. Overall, carbon dioxide emissions from new cars sold in the EU. decreased by 3,7 % the 2010 and today the average for new cars sold in Europe is 140 grams per kilometer.

As for Volvo, the maximum in this performance in the new 1.6lt diesel engine (DRIVe version ) return 115 PS, which they placed across almost their entire range, except SUVs and the S80. Especially the C30s, S40 and V50 in version 1.6 DRIVe the CO2 emission is just at 99 g/km (zero road tax in Greece), while the S60 1.6 DRIVe is just around the corner 114 g/km.

The organization of top races by Greeks seems to be fully trusted by the world automobile federation (FIA), after its decision to include in its Acropolis rally 2012 and the WRC Academy category. Our national match will be the 6th round of the championship for the 2012 and will also count towards the PWRC class championship. However, the choice of Greece to host the second round of the WRC Academy raises the interest even more, given that the specific institution at its establishment (2011) had 20 participations.

Already with the calendar finalized, the Greek organizing committee has decided that it will support any Greek competitor who participates in the Acropolis Rally with a car of the category (Ford Fiesta R2 prepared by M-Sport), with the details to be defined in the near future. It is recalled that the WRC Academy is the "nursery" of tomorrow's WRC drivers, since it gives the opportunity to young people under the age of 25 years to participate in the world rally championship at a cost lower than that of the other categories, but also with a prize money of the order of 500.000 euro for the champion. Note that the Acropolis rally 2012 will be held on 24-27 May, while in its 58th edition it will once again focus on the city of Loutraki.

EPIDAURUS : A statue from Roman times was found

It was discovered in the surroundings of the Little Theater of Epidaurus, during the work being carried out, the statue of a naked man, which dates back to the imperial Roman times and possibly to the 2nd AD. century. Archaeologists cite the 2nd as a possible date, as at that time the Emperor Hadrian visited the city and created favorable conditions.

The statue is essentially a marble torso, the size of which is slightly larger than a physical body and represents a naked man, who is naked and standing with a robe thrown over the left shoulder and wrapped around the arm, which was found in very good condition. The statue has a soft body build, with exaggeration in the clean structure and swelling in the muscles.

The statue is inspired by the great sculptor Polykleitos and there is a possibility that it is a representation of the god Hermes. Archaeologists do not know if it is really a representation of the god or as has happened many times with other copies of the same type, by adjusting the head and face, which was the portrait of an important official of the time.

The area where the statue was found, presumably included the purchase of the ancient city. More specifically, it was found embedded in a makeshift building, which dates earlier than the 4th AD. century, near older buildings, which are assumed by archaeologists to be part of the wider ancient market of Epidaurus.

The works are carried out under the auspices of the Epidaurus Monuments Conservation Committee of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. For the purpose of cleaning and maintaining the statue, it was transferred to the Museum of Asclepius Epidaurus.

Seminar on the European Language Folder for people with partial or total vision loss

The Center for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind (KEAT-Thessalonica Branch) and the Greek Language Center (KEG) of the Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs are co-organizing a seminar dedicated to the program entitled "Tell Me How!- Dissemination of the European Language Folder for People with Partial or Total Sight Loss",which is implemented in the framework of the "Lifelong Learning" program, of the European Commission.

The seminar will take place at the Central Municipal Library (of National Defense 27, Thessalonica) on Thursday 3 November 2011, (09.30 -14.00.) and is addressed to teachers of foreign languages ​​as well as Greek as a foreign/second language in relation to the audience of students with visual impairments in order to present and promote the use of the special European Language Learning Folder ELPBVI.

One minute…marching for Simoncelli
